Fortunately, I have an even better answer. My grandfather was a German soldier during WW1. I heard the stories about them washing naked in the snow. As a teen, I decided I would see if I had the same guff as he did. I did. It's not bad. A little invigorating as all. Apparently, I inherited the same genes. I just don't feel cold the same way you do. My body temp is 96.8 and the summer kills me. It's all in the genes.

Sure it is. You don't need soap in those temps. As you postulated, the snow is rough, and as it melts, it works as both soap and water.
Again, my temp is 96.8... not 98.6. Ice water will literally shut my throat down.

I get a little light-headed. Back in the mid 90s when I was a general contractor, my dad and I were building a two story deck on this house. I kept missing the nails, and Dad sarcastically asked me why I wasn't hitting them. I said, "IDK Dad, maybe it's because I had a temp of 102 this morning." So my 102 was akin to your 104. As a kid, I did have a temp of 104 once, and my dumb ass mom was old school about it. Sweat a fever. She could have killed me.

There were stories about that girl on TMZ but I forget her name. I think she is reporting Centigrade temperatures. On American TV, meteorologists sensationalize hot weather by reporting the temperature humidity index, which is almost as bad as reporting wind chill. I don't see her doing that. Maybe, it is strictly an American cultural phenomenon. I wish a European member, especially a Russian, would tell me whether wind chill is reported so often where they live. Oh, and Canada too. Update:
![]() If liberals had their way, we would have carbon taxes on natural gas, right now. I had to look up the weather in Paris: https://weather.com/weather/today/l/...+FRXX0076:1:FR Wednesday's forecast high is 38 deg F. . If they rioted over carbon taxes, imagine what we would do. |

Anyway, I wear one layer of socks and the only time my feet are cold is when they are wet. I just finished walking 5 miles. It was 0 when I started and it is 10 now. I was absolutely comfortable. After stopping at home to take a pee and write this, I will walk another 5. Tomorrow the daytime high is supposed to be -15, which, I think would be a record, but, Wednesdays are not exercise days for me. At those temperatures, greenhouse heating gets strange because frost clogs air leaks in the structure. It reduces heating requirements but it increases the probability that the oxygen deprivation sensors in my open flame heaters will turn the heaters off. Good to be home, if that happens. |

It was -21 last night and it is -13 as I write this. I have remote, wireless, electronic thermometer sensors in my greenhouse and on the north side of my garage, on the outside of a door frame (so it is sheltered from precipitation). The receivers are hung on the wall next to me.
My greenhouse is 18' x 10', aluminum frame, covered with twin wall polycarbonate. I heat this with two open flame heaters. One is 30,000 btu/hr and has a built in thermostat. The other is 10,000 btu/hr and has no thermostat but has a manual control with two settings. I guess that the lower setting is about 7000 btu/hr.. In the winter, I normally have the lower setting on during the night and when it is cloudy, but, off when sunshine hits the greenhouse because that drives the temperature past 90 and opens the vents. Normally, in the winter, the night temperature in my greenhouse fluctuates between 67 and 71, as the thermostat on my larger heater goes on and off. Last night, with my smaller heater set to low, my greenhouse temperature dropped to 61 which means the larger heater was on continuously. Thus, it took 37,000 btu/hr to keep my 180 square foot greenhouse at 61 deg. F.. Tonight, the outdoor temperature is supposed to be -25, so I turned my smaller heater to high to see whether 40,000 btu/hr is more than enough. BTW, the padlocks on my greenhouse and garage were frozen and difficult to unlock. I had to warm the greenhouse padlock by gripping it with my bare hand for about 30 seconds. That didn't work with the garage padlock. I had to warm it with a blowtorch. I can imagine situations where people die because they can't get into their home with a key because the lock is frozen. |

I just finished walking 5 miles. It was -21 when I started and -3 when I got home. That is according to my thermometer; according to TV news it is now -13. Automobile traffic was unusually low, like on Christmas day. There was evidence of dog owners not bothering to pick up their dog's droppings.
I wore 3 layers of ski masks, 1 layer of socks. Most of my discomfort came from walking on bumpy snow because about 1/3 of sidewalks are not shoveled. And, I have to walk over 3 ft. mounds of snow at crosswalks left by snowplows. Jogging under those conditions is impractical. Now, I have to walk another 5 miles.
