Omg i really wish I could grow bananas where I live, too cold. Looks awesome though

Think positive!!! Hey --- I once grew bananas back in New Jersey and then in NC before FL. Every year pot up the biggest pups and take indoors. In spring plant in ground after last frost. In fall dig up and pot up the main pstems. Grow indoors.

Keep this up till flowering size. When flower pops I would stick the pots in the garden bath tub with a sky light above. Last bunch I remember was 72 edible bananas. Good rule to follow --- stick to short height varieties and short cycle especially. Like Viente Cohol. It's nice to use the tub now and then.

Bananimal Thanks - How does VC taste and how long to flower? My Orinoco and namwahs usually require overwintering and bloom 2nd season if pstems survive winter.

A couple first time fruiters.

Pitogo, (finally!) after a few years and 2 other plants that were something else. Those tiny little fruit make me think it's the real thing, as the friend who gave it to me said.

Another interesting one, Putalinga Hina Nounou obtained from the now defunct Greenwell Garden in Kona. It's a popoulu type.

At your location you will get one bunch a year. Take all pups and plant as separate mats. It's as they say --- the VC is one of the best tasting and very short cycle naners around.

This Bishop museum which owns them decided to sell it, stating that it wasn't part of their mission. Of course that upset a lot of people, as it's a living museum, having been occupied by Hawaiians for hundreds of years, planted with dozens of species of endemic & indigenous plants, along with rare canoe plants, including their banana collection. Wow, that sounds pretty sleazy on the part of the Bishop Museum. I'm glad you were able to help preserve some of the rare banana varieties.

First African Rhino Horn. Just under a year to flower. This has been one I've waited on for years with a weak plant from Aloha Tropicals that still hasn't flowered. Got this one from a friend nearby and it's been much more vigorous. Such a beautiful red plant too!

My neighbor cut the Male Bud off yesterday while I was at work. I will have to wait until it blooms again for positive identification

My first pup from my Brazilian that flowered last fall is about to flower..

I, of course, will add more pics after it begins making hands.
Flowering this time of year, I guess, should make a bigger raceme than my November one did, plus, this pup is much larger than the original TC mother plant was. Should ripen in less than 5 months as well. CAN'T WAIT!!
