![]() I've experienced some success and some failure over the last few months. After losing multiple bunches and mature pseudostems to a partially-formed funnel cloud in the wake of Tropical Storm Colin, the bananas are defiantly producing again. Although Colin signaled a bittersweet goodbye to my Tigua (ouch!), Pisang Ceylon, Pisang Raja, and Gros Michel bunches, I was able to ripen the entire wind-fallen bunch of SH-3640 pictured below. It weighed out at 73 lbs several weeks after the second picture, with nary a bruise on the bunch following its precipitous fall.
The Puerto Rican Morado was the first to drop a post-Colin bud. Tiny, tiny bunch. The Morado was hit hard by flooding in November and December of 2015, and I was a bit overzealous in pupping it, so I blame that. Dwarf Brazilian popped first-ratoon last week. And now for your featured programming! I thought I might be the first to fruit Tigua in the North American hobbyist community, so I'm making no such prediction for the French Red. But thar she blows! Here's a comparison of the French Red to an eight-foot step ladder. The other plants in row #4, heading east from the FR, are Morado, Tigua, and Pisang Ceylon. Here's the progress of row #2, featuring FHIA-21, Pisang Mas, and Pisang Jari Buaya. Sandwiched between this and the French Red row are Gros Michel, Patupi, Pitogo, and Neypoovan. Thanks for looking! And a big thank you to our man Hector for inspiring me to post an update of recent goings-on! :-) |

![]() WOW. Colin didn't seem like much, but it sure sounds like it was a lot for you. Sorry to hear of your losses. If you had expected more, you could have taken protective measures or simply cut the bunches and brought them in. Sad.

What it seems I actually have: Brazilian, Cavendish, Namwah, Dwarf Red, Gros Michel, Pisang Ceylon, Veinte Cohol and SH 3640, and American Goldfinger. FHIA 1, Paggi and FHIA 17... Always room for one more. |

![]() This should have happened a month ago, but my second pup on the D. Brazilian is popping out a flower. They finally started growing again a few weeks ago after way too much K back in June put them into suspended animation. I have two other pups from the original TC plant that will be flowering soon as well. If the bunch I have hanging that flowered in late May take the full 5 months the first bunch did, I will have 4 bunches hanging from the one mat in a few weeks.
The original TC bloomed at 8 feet, the first pup at 9 feet, this one measures in at 10 feet at the bloom.

![]() I've been cussing this perhaps D Namwah for months; she just keeps getting taller and leaning to the east while laughing at my pleas for more effort on her part. Sure, I've done all that leaf studying (tried) but to no avail; she kept pushing out ever larger leaves whilst snickering at my attention. Fine. I gave up. Hey, I was 2 weeks overdue with DS and she's far beyond that time frame so obviously a dud. Just my luck!
Then the other day my now unwatched and totally ignored musa surprised me... Easter basket fillers? ![]()
