I have observed a few forum members use large saucers under their large plants to hold supplemental water. You can use them on most tropicals and musa. Here is a snapshot of when one waters and it flows out the drain holes or around the soiless mix in your pot. This is just after you've thought you watered your pot "real good". This is what really happens. Note the distinct water line on the top 1/2 of the container and the bottom 1/2 is dry. A saucer will catch the overflow and wick the water upwards to the dry area. Try it out check and see if it works for you and draw your own conclusions. It's just another way to make watering an easier chore. ![]() Water deep by Hostafarian, on Flickr |

![]() Yeah makes sense and my pots drain quick. So that’s a good idea but wouldn’t want to much water laying around as mosquitoes here are active all year long.

run off and wick the excess up into the container. Water only what your plant will consume....after some practice and observation you will hit the mark just right. Water sitting in the saucer full time could lead to root rot. Last edited by cincinnana : 01-15-2023 at 08:40 AM. Reason: tipo |

![]() The sides of a pot can get really hot and cook the near roots. For pots that are in direct sunlight we use fabric skirts made from landscaping cloth to block the sunlight.

![]() Well walking around the yard my large mats that I wrapped up with plastic sheeting. Only one variety my ice cream had some 12ft stalks that still got whacked others look fine inside. It comes back every year quick even if the whole mat melts to the ground. We got 16 maybe 14 here for the am the day the whole country got a low.
That’s an idea I can try. Just really need to plant them out. Have two pots that I don’t know what the bananas are and don’t have extra so kinda don’t want to plant them out.. Last edited by blownz281 : 01-15-2023 at 02:30 PM. |
