![]() Years ago I made some hoop boxes like his out of wood. Stapled plastic sheeting over top of them. It worked great for the plants, but can’t take them apart so became hard to store.

![]() All I did was bring in my citrus that were in containers. Everything else is on it's own. Hell I'm moving south anyway. Crazy, sustained cold here.

![]() Not to bad. Yes pvc is way cheaper now days. My stems I didn’t protect either smaller pups or mats I ran out of supplies or time for lost a lot of size. 5ft sizes and feels like mush basically half of the stem. But protected the main ones I carried more about. Those ones will come back up anyhow.

![]() well 5 days of freeze, with 4 nights in the low 20's, i did not fair to badly.
the bananas in the hoop house are doing great, the only green i have in the yard. one thing of an interesting note; my sweetheart, goldfinger and lady finger that i planted last year are mush halfway down. they are all 2ft. tall. but the mats that i took them from, which each mat numbers in the 5 to 12 range, are all solid at the top. with the mats ranging from 5 to 7ft. tall. just a guess at this point is, the bigger mats got fertilized thru out the year and the ones that were planted this year got very little fertilization. well anyways. i have cut off the cigar leaves off the ones that had them, and i cut off the first 2 leaves at the p-stem on the ones that didnt to promote any new growth, which i expect to see in the next few days with near 80 degree weather.

after 4 nights of freeze i cut off the dead leaves. my grandson was over for the weekend and saturday kicked down the p-stem of my goldfinger. it was rotten near to the ground. so i cut the p-stem down and covered it with a flower pot because it was supposed to frost saturday night. then i did the same with the ladyfinger and the sweatheart curious to see how they were fairing. all 3 bananas were near the same height, about 2ft. after watching these 3 for 6 winters, i figured the goldfinger would do the best. it did the worst and the sweatheart i thought would do the worst was the best of them. this is the sweatheart this morning, monday

![]() That’s crazy. Always heard Goldfinger was pretty hardy as have mine in pots. Never found a place to put them past two years. Haven’t done great for me after first year of having them. Maybe not a fan of being in a pot.
I have an extra DC I left in the ground and it’s under 2ft with small pups. Mulched it, threw plastic bag over it, put two thin bed sheets over that, plastic pot. The stem is still good and small pups are green around it even with our low of 16 we got two weeks ago. |

![]() You have longer heat throughout the year compared to me. But we get hotter than you temperature wise here. So curious what’s the smallest in height of banana plant you have ever planted out? I want to get a bunch I have in pots in the yard and I normally wait till they are pretty big. Tired of having so many pots.

![]() Most bananas in pots for me I have noticed either grow crazy depending on type or are up and down with growth. But some of that is even in partial shade they can get really hot/dry if I can’t water them everyday. So my plan is to put everything this year in pots in the ground and maybe dig them up and pot in the greenhouse or garage or take a pup for winter. One for example is Musa Blue Burmese. Kinda think it’s the corm though. Had it for years and all of them haven’t done great in pots, large one was up and down with growth in the yard. My buddy has them at his business that’s where I got mine and he is zone 7b colder than me. But had had them since the 80’s.
