Unhappy Re: Notice - Liquidation of Scot's (Chironiex) Banana Collection

I am so sorry to hear of your hassle Chong.
It is crap when people/businesses don't conduct themselves as professionals.
I am glad you insisted they did and gave them hardship over it.

My husband says to make sure you get the check($) before you release the goods to them to destroy.
In the mean time while it takes them 2-3 weeks to do this, trade out the bananas by trimming some leaves from some bananas you already have.
Roll them up in the newspaper and try and revive those poor abused bananas.
They don't care...it (in a word) sucks.

And your equipment...are they gonna give you full replacement cost on those TC tools?

Wishing the best for you Chong... ~Cheryl

I agree! Pot them up and give them a large dose of superthrive. They are bananas and many have come back from the dead. Good luck.

No, I was not out trying to prove a point. That was why I spent over an hour with them on the phone trying get some kind of resolution because I did not want to lose any of the plants that may have survived. And I told them that I would like to keep the plants nevertheless, but that I was expecting some kind of relief for the damage due to their negligence. Any other alternative, I would lose both the plants and the money. I can tell you, there are several very small plantlets (from TC) that may be already beyond saving. I have received greener plants, TC and pups, of slightly larger sizes than some of these that have not made it. Not that I'm not going to try to revive them.

Thanks. I planned do that. But I cannot do that right now because they said that they want to inspect it first. So, I cannot touch the package until after they do. They said that they would call to schedule an inspection today or tomorrow. As of right now, they are still lying to me because they have not called yet, and until they actually do call, they are. If they are really genuinely concerned for their alleged customer service, they'd have called me before the end of their business day. So, that means that I will have to wait another 2 or 3 days longer before I can do anything to save these plants.

Thank you, Cheryl,

Unfortunately, until UPS can inspect it, I can't do anything to them. And they said that they'd call to schedule the inspection, today or tomorrow. Well, they didn't call today. That means, I'm going to have to wait at least another 2 or 3 days before I could take any remedial actions on these plants.

But I will not release these plants to be destroyed because it would mean that I could lose both the plants and the money. They insist that only the shipper can file a claim, and as we all know, he is no longer in this country. So, if I refuse this shipment, they will take it back to Vegas and try to contact Scot 3 times before either sending them back to me, or destroy them. Either way, the plants will be gone. And I will not be able to recover my money, until after I can get hold of Scot, and then for him to file a claim.

Thanks again.

Chong

(PS. Email sent yesterday. Please let me know if you've not received it. Thanks.)

Sorry for the bad luck and hassles, Chong.

I heard the same sort of thing about insurance from USPS around 6-7 years ago, that only the sender could file the claim. In my case, it was many place settings of China and the seller did a terrible job of packing and several items broke. On top of that, the seller kept promising to file a claim but never did and then just said I had got a good enough deal as it was. By then, it was too late for me to file negative eBay feedback as well but it just wasn't worth me wasting my time further on it.

I hope you're able to get the plants to survive.

Best wishes,

Harvey

Well, my delivery girl is at least beautiful, if not magical and irresistible, so I can imagine the kinda compensation I would want.
No, chong, really, sorry. Did you inspect the plants? You would be surprised. After 3 weeks my Pahari Kela recovered in 3 cases (and would maybe in more, if it was just 3 days less, one pup struggled underground but then died).
Some of the plants might still be salvagable.
How many plants were there?

On that same day, 07/22AM, Scot sent me a third box, containing the plants I bought from the auction, via UPS. In the PM, he sent me a 4th box with TC equipment via FedEX. The FedEX package, as I reported earlier arrived the following Saturday, 07/25AM. The UPS package made a tour of the US, stopping at 7 cities to Doraville, GA before being rerouted back to Seatlle, WA via Hodgkins, IL and who knows what other cities. To add insult to injury, here is the condition of the package.

Looks like they heeded the Fragile warning sticker, huh?

Here's what it looks like inside, the plants had shrunk and are very dehydrated:

I had the delivery man open it, and he acknowledged that the contents were damaged. The package originally weighed 30.1 pounds, but I doubt if the package now weighs anywhere that. The delivery guy also acknowledged that. Then, talking to alleged Customer Service for relief was like pulling teeth again and I had to ask to talk to 2 levels of management before I could get a reasonable resolution. They wanted me to contact the shipper, even after I repeatedly told them that he was already in China. The they told me that what they have to do is get it inspected for the damage, then send it back to the shipper, where they would attempt to get hold of him three times before doing anything to it. I told them that that would be unacceptable because if at that time they decide to destroy the package, I would not be able to get my money back. If they again were to return the package to me, the contents my be worthless by then. So, after almost an hour of haggling, they finally decided to have an inspector come to the house to inspect the box. If the inspector confirms the damage, I would still need Scot to file a claim. And I don't know if the inspector is going to let me keep the materials.
chong i know its frustrating but i would water them ASAP and get them back in to good earth and forget the princapal of the thing- but never ues UPS again i know some times they do a good job its hard to say every one elsis stuff got there in good shape and in a speedy time i told Scot not to ues UPS but he is a man with a vary stubern streek so thers no talking him out of things i hear your pain but if you let them sit there wating to be inspected they will surly die

This situation sucks, but let's not throw UPS totally under the bus. I personally use them for everything and I have never had a problem like this. This is just bad luck and standard industry-wide bad service.

On a positive note, my M laterita and M itinerans var. itinerans have both pushed a complete leaf since arrival. Doing good.

I had a friend ship 2 or 3 banana plants to the UK a couple of years ago but they were rejected by some inspectors (customs?) since the recipient didn't have an import permit, etc. After about three months they unexpectedly show up back at his place here in California. The box was beat up and the plants looked ugly, but he potted them up and they all grew. These were larger pups, though, so they can take more of a beating.

That would have sucked if it had happened to me. Add to the fact it would have been outside in 100+ temps until Aug 15 if it took that long to get here.

Mine pushed out about 8" of leaf before I left on Aug 1. I should be surprised with at least a complete leaf when I return. Left a sprinkler on the patio on timer.

Thanks, Jack,
I can't actually look at the plants until after today because UPS said they'd call me yesterday (they didn't) or today (still waiting). After 5:00 PM today, if they still haven't called, I'll take all the plants out and lay them out on the driveway and take photos of them, before soaking them in water overnight then potting them up in the morning.

I don't know exactly how many plants there are, but I think there are 10 or 12 plants of varying sizes. I can see a couple of small TC plantlets (~10" p-stem) and their leaves are already yellow and the stems are limp. Not a good sign. The bigger plants may still be salvageable.

Thanks again.

Oh Chong, time is of the essence, even 1 day can make the difference with such a small TCed plants.
I don't really know, but I think the bananas are worth more than they will ever refund you or admit.
Take pics now, if they haven't called yet and start potting the plants immediatelly. Soaking will not do any good for almost dead plant.
I wish they recovered, but just act. Forget the whole damn issue with the delivery company and never use them again.

on severely dehydrated plants soaking them in water with 4stp. of sugar can add in reducing surface tension and softens the out walls of the roots allowing water to move up the root we do this with Orchids when they get shipped as there often delayed in customs

I wonder what happened to the TC project Scot was doing. I sent him several plants last year to TC including a V. cohol pup. Chong, if you got the TC plants, I sure hope the V. cohol makes it alive!

Does Scot plan to do some work on bananas in China?

Sorry to break the news to you, Austin (if this is the first time you've heard about it). But I recall that Scot had posted that the TC of the VC had perished when his landlord shut down the A-C where they were, when he went to China earlier this year. When he got back, it was mush. I didn't realize that you were his donor. Thank you for that and sorry, that it ended up that way.

Not to worry, you still are on my Señorita list, though. And they are the short form, too!
