Re: My blue java trees look pathetic. Is it disease or just weather?

This was happening to my bananas when I wasn't using mulch, they were planted in native soil that was really sandy and drained really fast. Bananas come from the rainforest which is very fertile. So...

Re: Pisang raja and pitogo banana

I will say though... I just had my first raja pisang banana and it did not taste good! It was thoroughly ripe, but the bunch didn't completely fill out so that might have had something to do with it,...

Re: What's blooming in your garden? (bananas)

I have the most bananas in bloom at the same time ever (5) and it's a little late! We have been getting frost every year lately :( I have been so disappointed basically every year. This coming year...

Re: *Help* Pups don't grow

I wanted to give an update about the raja pisang. I ended up moving it to the side of my house because these pups got blasted by a frost that winter and never really recovered that well. I think I...

Re: Sold as "ice cream": pink pseudostem, maroon leaf midribs, glaucous leaf undersid

Yeah I saw all that after I had already purchased from them. So far that was the only one that was wrong out of Dwarf Namwah, Goldfinger, and Raja Pisang. Although the dwarf namwah has been a huge...

Re: Sold as "ice cream": pink pseudostem, maroon leaf midribs, glaucous leaf undersid

Yes other than a bit of pink coloring towards the bottom of the pseudostem although it isn't always apparent on the outside, in some layers it is.

Re: Sold as "ice cream": pink pseudostem, maroon leaf midribs, glaucous leaf undersid

This I got from Florida Hill Nursery labelled as 'ice cream' that I'm very sure is Namwa now that it has fruited many times. It is very pink.

Re: Using bananas as a garbage disposal = super happy bananas

I've been doing this for about 2 yrs as well. I realized bananas need rich soil, the only time that it becomes a detriment to add plant waste is when it's piles and piles of rotting citrus fruit like...

Re: Banana plants and moles

Was it a vole? I know voles are more apt to do that than moles. Nice suggestion about the coffee!

Re: squirrels vs. bananas = devastation

That is some awful squirrel damage! I had no idea they went after plants, are you sure it's squirrels? Rabbits eat everything green in sight it seems and I know my guinea pigs will eat banana leaves...

Re: Bananas not turning yellow

When they pick them green for shipping they have to gas them to get them ripen. I use an apple or two in a brown bag.

Re: Only leaving a few leaves on mother plants?

Thanks for showing this. What was the stress? I agree with leaving the leaves on, I have had multiple bunch failures from not enough leaves. Could someone stress the plant in other ways if they need...

Re: Only leaving a few leaves on mother plants?

Yes you are right, it could be a trigger for blooming. When we had hurricane Ian during all the wind we chopped off the top of two pstems, they ended up blooming a couple months later but the bunch...

Re: Only leaving a few leaves on mother plants?

We need more info about the raspberry banana! :lurk:

Yeah I have never seen a benefit from cutting leaves in fact having too few leaves is why I have yet to taste my tall namwa after about 5 bunches...

Re: Arctic Blast

Good luck and stay warm! Our forecast is 35 so I'm hoping the frost doesn't settle on the leaves. Last year it did.
