Moles eat the bugs not the roots, but they make tunnels that could cause the roots to die. I have noticed mole activity around the bananas, probably a hotbed for insects due to the increased nutrients. I just press down the tunnels as best as I can trying not to disturb the roots.

That's good to know, I was worried they were feasting on my plants lol. I did have something eat a small pups roots and corm last season, just figured it was moles. It was a healthy pup, went to water it and it just fell over I could see teeth marks on what was left of the corm. After just doing a Google search it might have been voles.

Yes after doing more research in my area I found it was probably from a Gopher but luckily I haven't had any more issues with it in awhile but do still see mole tunnel's.

well actually.......

this perked my curiosity as i lost my french reds to what i thought was moles. so i googled it.

apparently moles in washington not only eat insects but also plants and animals. proves that you might not want to camp in washington on the ground because you might not know whats eating on you.

a while back i read that moles don't like coffee. if want to get moles out of a certain area you can pour your left over coffee and coffee grounds in that area.

Was it a vole? I know voles are more apt to do that than moles. Nice suggestion about the coffee!
