The proper NPK ratio for bananas is 3:1:6 or multiple thereof; ie: 15-5-30; 9-3-18 .... BUT this is NOT all that is needed or involved .... soil pH needs to be accounted for in the fertilizer...

I would agree with crazybanana, mulch, mulch, much mulch....water can still run off it underneath at first, but once the critters under the mulch get to work on the soil surface, it should soak right...
