You can make a tee-pee frame with three sticks from your yard. Just tie them together at the top with some string or a twisty tie. You can train them if you want to help them or just let them go on their own. ~J

Good idea, JaNan!

You can also use string, Cam. Tie it from one place to another, near the plants, so the vines can climb along the strings.

Good day and Good evening, Chatters!!!

Nice to be able to sign on and have some conversation to read other than my own!

Cam, your Amaryllis is beautiful! I bet you're happy. Keep the bloom cool and out of the sun and it will last longer for you. Enjoy!

So it's a pretty sunny day here in London today...

Just got home not too long ago and thought I'd check out the threads...

Hi Sherry! That is a beautiful shot! I may have a snow picture to post in your Winter thread tomorrow. We are forecast snow this afternoon and evening! UGH! But the pictures will be pretty. It is so cold right now, I am holed up in the house. At least there are a few of you guys around to talk to!

I started a few seeds yesterday that I had soaking to try and help the winter blues, but it hasn't helped much!

What have you been up to? What seeds have you started?

Oh, I have some pictures to post to the succulent thread. I got a couple of inside the bloom shots you wanted to see. ~J

Thanks about my picture, JaNan! I love sunny shots the best.

I've been busy with my mom mostly and getting things straightened around over here so we can live peacefully. There's been a lot of stress but I'd rather talk about happy things and...

Spring!

So cool that you're sowing lots of seeds. I'm not sowing as many as I normally would because I have some decisions to make about where I'm going to be living. I'm considering moving and am in the middle of things, so gardening and seed sowing is not as much of a priority as it would be otherwise.

I have sown some geranium seeds though. Kale & Romaine too. Some pepper seeds as well but only a couple. Your 'marble' variety is one of them JaNan.

Gotta grab a quick small bite to eat and put an angus primerib roastbeef in the oven for dinner tonight. Having company. The roast will take a couple hours at least, so I have time, but I just have to get it going. I cook it with my fresh homegrown bay leaves with onions & worchestershire sauce. Maybe I can take a shot before it goes in the oven...

Sounds yummy! I think we may be having BLT's for supper tonight. That is what I am craving at the moment, but that is subject to change.

Oh, I hope the marble does well for you. They are such darling little peppers! I am not sowing a lot - only about 10 or so of each kind just to give me a chance for one or two to sprout (I hope). I like the variety I guess.

I have some geraniums that are getting ready to bloom again. My hot pink ones.

Smile Re: Insomnia Thread...

Nice JaNan!

When that bloom dies, you should cut your geranium plant back drastically, and remove the old spindly growth and allow new shoots to develop and grow. The plant will look new and be once again covered with leaves.

After a geranium plant is a year old it appreciates getting pruned so it will look full and vibrant once again. If you see new shoots growing at the base of the plant already, cut off all the old woody leafless branches...right down to the new growth.

February is the month to sow and grow geraniums, most especially.

Yeah, I'm totally excited about the marble seeds popping. I know that'll be one pretty plant.

I sent pictures I had developed of my plants, all my best ones, to my grandparents and I think they got them today, if not tomorrow. They love to see my stuff and my grandmother tells people I'm a professional gardener, even though I scold her and tell I her I am not! She loves to rave on about it though. LoL.

So, I might be up late tonight...sowing more seeds! I recently bought some fresh 'french vanilla' marigold seeds. There's a reason why they're one of my favorite flowers. Here's a pic of one of mine from last year...

Gonna sow some seeds tonight. They pop in just a little over 30 hours...that's how fresh, viable, & fast sprouting they are. What a fantastic hybrid variety that is ideal for pots but excellent in the garden too. The flowers are many, and they keep coming all season log until frost.

It does look kinda bad doesn't it! Sorry! I'm sitting here laughing out loud as I am typing. Greg thinks I have lost it. I am not a very good pruner! I don't like pinching off new little leaves either. Ha! Ha! Ha! Those little ugly geraniums are about 3 years old - poor little things. I have tears running down my face! I can just about see the horror on your face! I have to wipe my face! I have always just thought that geraniums hated me!!! Oh lordy, lordy!

Talking Re: Insomnia Thread...

Too funny, JaNan!!!

I wasn't looking horrified though...just trying to let you know how you can enjoy your geranium better. I've been growing them for so many years and learned the hard way like you...keeping old spindly practically leafless branches on my plant.

Like you, I thought they just didn't like me and this was their way of telling me so!

When the blooms die, cut down those 2 feet long brown woody branches once and for all!

That is just too funny though and I totally see the humor.

On a serious note...

You and many other gardeners have got to get over this pruning complex you've developed somewhere along the way. Most plants love and benefit from regular pruning. It often makes the difference between dense & spindly...

as JaNan has so kindly demonstrated!

Three years old and never pruned?! Good Lord, I've got to teach you some things, girl!

Get the scissors immediately!

OK, ok! I shall give it a try. What if it kills them? Do I stick the sticks back in dirt? Will they grow too? I don't think there are new leaves at the base. I really do have a complex about it. How did you know? I don't have a problem hacking a pup off something though. Go figure???

Hiya Re: Insomnia Thread...

Can I see a picture of the base? It won't kill it to prune it, but please let me see it first...

Have you ever given your geranium any fertilizer, JaNan?

Let's figure out why you have an aversion to pruning. What are you worried will happen if you do it...that the plant will die? The truth is, they can die or at least not do as well when you don't prune them...not the other way around.

Pruning is good and it stimulates new growth. You'll love your geranium a few weeks after you prune it.

Those brown branches are somewhat dead already and that's why no leaves form on them, or barely any.

Have you ever collected seeds from your geranium, JaNan? It's real easy.

Yeah. I will try to get a picture of it for you in the morning. Scissors are not going to work on those tough old stalks, I'll have to get the pruners out. I really have them in several sizes, believe it or not! But they are all like brand new!

Yes, I have collected seed from them, but I never planted them. They look like a needle, kind of.

That's right JaNan...they do look like needles. If you sowed new seeds, you'd have a vigorous young plant again, loaded with many blooms.

I think I need a snack too. I think I will get an apple, then I think I will hit the hay after that though. I need to try and sleep while the urge hits and the eyelids are getting heavy. It must have been all that tearful laughing - it just wore me out!

Night gang! ~J

Y'all gotta love the South

Alabama

A group of Alabama friends went deer hunting and paired off in twos for the day. That night, one of the hunters returned alone, staggering under the weight of an eight-point buck.

"Where's Henry?" the others asked.

"Henry had a stroke of some kind. He's a couple of miles back up the trail," the successful hunter replied.

"You left Henry laying out there and carried the deer back?" they inquired.

"A tough call," nodded the hunter. "But I figured no one is going to steal Henry!"

Georgia

The owner of a golf course in Georgia was confused about paying an invoice, so he decided to ask his secretary for some mathematical help.

He called her into his office and said, "You graduated from the University of Georgia and I need some help. If I were to give you $20,000, minus 14%, how much would you take off?"

The secretary thought a moment, and then replied, "Everything but my earrings."

Louisiana

A senior citizen in Louisiana was overheard saying ... "When the end of the world comes, I hope to be in Louisiana ."

When asked why, he replied, "I'd rather be in Louisiana because everything happens in Louisiana 20 years later than in the rest of the civilized world."

Mississippi

The young man from Mississippi came running into the store and said to his buddy, "Bubba, somebody just stole your pickup truck from the parking lot!"

Bubba replied, "Did you see who it was?"

The young man answered, "I couldn't tell, but I got the license number."

North Carolina

A man in North Carolina had a flat tire, pulled off on the side of the road, and proceeded to put a bouquet of flowers in front of the car and one behind it. Then he got back in the car to wait.

A passerby studied the scene as he drove by and was so curious he turned around and went back. He asked the fellow what the problem was.

The man replied, "I have a flat tire."

The passerby asked, "But what's with the flowers?"

The man responded, "When you break down they tell you to put flares in the front and flares in the back. I never did understand it neither."

Tennessee

A Tennessee State trooper pulled over a pickup on I-65. The trooper asked, "Got any ID?"

The driver replied, "Bout whut?"

Texas

The Sheriff pulled up next to the guy unloading garbage out of his pick-up into the ditch.

The Sheriff asked, "Why are you dumping garbage in the ditch? Don't you see that sign right over your head."

"Yep", he replied. "That's why I'm dumpin' it here, cause it says:

'Fine For Dumping Garbage'."

***

You can say what you want about the South, but you never hear of anyone retiring and moving North.
