![]() Is this really the first thread in this forum? I love banana plants. I only recently discovered that there are so many different kinds. I think the vanilla one would be my favorite, flavorwise. The only bananas I have growing are the standard kind everyone plants in TX (I don't even know the species yet). They haven't fruited yet but they have grown to 6 and 9 feet respectively and the 9-footer has 3 shoots coming up next to it. They were both planted last October. In the spring they were shooting out a new leaf every week but we've been having a drought the last 6 weeks and they haven't grown in about a month, despite water and fertilizer about every 3 days. I hope they fruit next year!

![]() hah! Yes, it sure was the first post in this particular forum. You certainly hold the honor. Welcome to the forum! Now I have somebody to talk to!
I'm in Florida, we just had a hurricane miss hitting us, so I had to trim most of the leaves off my bananas so they didnt get caught in the wind. When they do, would these be the first plants of yours to fruit? Do you plan to get some other types? Have the space?

![]() Hey, Im 16, I live in Colorado (although currently Im actually in St. Petersburg FL). I grow bananas for fun and for research and have been for the last 3 years. I have many plants including very rare and unusual ones. Im currently doing a few projects regarding the cultivation of small species and hybrids (namely the Rhodochlamys species), but this project will also form into a hybrid experiment when the times comes.

![]() Hey, yea, I have some pictures to post.
I was working on setting up a photo gallery for the forum and posting them there, but this is a beta version of vBulletin and there arent too may tried and tested modifications available for it. I think I found the solution though. So expect some pictures from me and the photo gallery real soon. It will be neat, everyone will get their own page to post photos to. Here's two various shots. One you can see a few white bird of paradise, a banana relative, a few small pink Musa Velutina, and a Zebrina. Look close and you will see lobster claw Heliconia, red ginger, a Spindle palm, white pinwheel jasmine, and orange Don Juan blooms, among others. The other photo is a closeup of the flag and inflorescence of Velutina. http://www.bananas.org/images/DSC04320.JPG http://www.bananas.org/images/DSC04337.JPG

![]() I have two kinds (these are not actual pics of mine)
Strelitzia reginae ![]() and Strelitzia nicolai ![]() ![]() Not enough of my orange to trade, and my white, I have a lot of out there, maybe I can find one with a pup that can be removed without damaging it... I'll get back with you on that. I really enjoy my white birds. You should get some one way or another.

![]() I love the white birds too. There's a specimen a few blocks from me that's about 30 feet tall. I had to pass on buying one of those this weekend too, but I did get a large traveler's palm (Ravenala madagascariensis) that has 3 pups. I'm nervous about removing the pups because they're so close to the main plant and one of them is already over 3 feet. Any advice on separating them?
