Hiya Re: Insomnia Thread...

Man, I wish we were dropping to 62!

Try 5°F!!!

If we were at 62°F right now, I'd be wearing shorts, not long John's! Too funny!

So how has everyone been lately, besides colder than...guess I can't say hell, can I?!

It might be a late one tonight...I'm wired on hot chocolate!

Sorry I haven't taken any new shots lately but I've been kinda busy. Hope to be back chatting regularily soon but I just have a lot going on right now.

Going to get a drink of ice water but be back in a minute...

Who's around?

We are expecting more snow here. Maybe another 12 inches friday and another 6 inches next tuesday.

Temps got a little warmer today at around 30F but are expected to drop again over the next few days.

And only 25 days until pitchers and coaches show up for spring training!

I hope it comes early this year. Tired of cold temps and snow.

Doing good. There is a blossom about to open. I want to repot it into a bigger pot, but I want to make sure it is growing well first. So, I'll probably do that in a few weeks.

I'm curious if when the snow melts I find some holly bushes have taken root. I doubt it but you never know. Nature always has a way of surprising you.

Thumbs up Re: Insomnia Thread...

That's right Tom, you really never know when it comes to gardening, and where one person has had failure, another person may have success.

Many gardening 'experts' told me I couldn't do this, and I couldn't do that, but I had nothing but total success when I tried a number of things I was discouraged from doing.

Growing melons on a trellis for instance...

I once had this know-it-all neighbor/gardener who insisted it could not be done and that I was foolish to even try it. Not only did I successfully grow the melons on the trellis, but on the day of harvest she came running over loudly saying enthusiastically..."Are those melons on that trellis"?! (as if she didn't know ). I couldn't resist giving her one of the 8 I had and she never questioned my gardening after that and was in fact asking me tips on how to grow certain things.

I think gardeners should experiment and try things...most especially things that people tell them cannot be done. It just might work and you won't know unless you try. There's no absolutes in gardening...it's all about trial and error. Experience.

The best gardening tip I ever got to this day, was "Stop Listening To Other Gardeners"!!!

So cool about your lemon tree, Tom! Bob was telling me about his little dwarf keylime tree and that it has actual little limes on it already, indoors. I saw a pic and I have cuttings from the same plant, that are now rooted.

I hope you get to eat some lemons from your tree, Tom. How cool would that be!

Thanks for popping in and posting. I'm hoping you might see some holly sprouts in Spring. Small holly trees can be bought for under 10 bucks in Spring but it depends on the variety and size. I can get 'blue boy/girl' shrubs about a foot tall for around 10 bucks each but they're inferior to 'blue prince/princess' so I only want one pair, not many of them.

Alright, guess I've rambled enough. It's been awhile!

I want one with traditional holly leaves. Or do the leaves always start out oval and then grow to by holly leaf shapped?

Smile Re: Insomnia Thread...

If you like that traditional Holly leaf look, you might just love "Blue Boy/Girl", Tom. They are the first of the Blue Holly series and the originals. They are the traditional Christmas Holly and the leaves are very pointed.

"Blue Prince/Princess" are the hybrid offspring (children) of "Blue Boy/Girl" and the leaves are more oval and less toothed. Many more berries than their parents though, so this pair is my favorite.

Kind of a dark shot but here's the one you want Tom, "Blue Girl"...

...or good afternoon!

Hope everybody has a terrific Thursday.

Not sure what's going on today yet, but I gotta make some calls shortly. Might go out later but don't know. Still have to make some breakfast. Think I'll have a whole wheat english muffin with strawberry jam and tea...

Hiya Re: Insomnia Thread...

I will continue to talk to myself because there doesn't seem to be anyone around. JaNan, where did you go?

I sure appreciate you letting me know about those Mountain Laurel seeds. Hope I can get at least one to sprout...

I knew the flowers resembled Wisteria flowers and when I googled it last night, that's what it said too! One cool shrub that is and thanks so much for sharing it with me.

Think I'll be staying home today. I'm gonna make chicken cacciatore for my mom and I later. It's nice to have a day to just relax a bit.

I wish it was spring already so I could go for a bikeride and relieve some stress.

Here's a nice pink & white earth star plant of mine...

Also, a red siam ruby leaf after a shower today...

Chat soon...

I'm here! Had a couple of phone calls, and one was a marathon call from my sister! I've got to get some lunch and do a load of clothes. Had to go check on my little Texas Mountain Laurel to see how it was doing since I was bragging on it.

I have two earth stars like the lighter one you have pictured. Not any dark ones like the other one though. I agree with Penny, that is gorgeous. I love flashy colors on plants!

We had a cold front come through a while ago and the temperature has dropped about 20 degrees and we are supposed to have a hard freeze tonight, so I need to cover plants up this afternoon. ~J

Hiya Re: Insomnia Thread...

I'm here too...just busy back and forth doing a few things.

Hippie...I'd give just about anything to be in my garden right now or preparing a bed. I am totally envious, to say the least.

Good luck with your gardens and beds.

Here's another dark one I have, JaNan...
