Re: Insomnia Thread...
That's right Tom, you really never know when it comes to gardening, and where one person has had failure, another person may have success.
Many gardening 'experts' told me I couldn't do this, and I couldn't do that, but I had nothing but total success when I tried a number of things I was discouraged from doing.
Growing melons on a trellis for instance...
I once had this know-it-all neighbor/gardener who insisted it could not be done and that I was foolish to even try it. Not only did I successfully grow the melons on the trellis, but on the day of harvest she came running over loudly saying enthusiastically..."Are those melons on that trellis"?! (as if she didn't know ). I couldn't resist giving her one of the 8 I had and she never questioned my gardening after that and was in fact asking me tips on how to grow certain things.
I think gardeners should experiment and try things...most especially things that people tell them cannot be done. It just might work and you won't know unless you try. There's no absolutes in gardening...it's all about trial and error. Experience.
The best gardening tip I ever got to this day, was "Stop Listening To Other Gardeners"!!!
So cool about your lemon tree, Tom! Bob was telling me about his little dwarf keylime tree and that it has actual little limes on it already, indoors. I saw a pic and I have cuttings from the same plant, that are now rooted.
I hope you get to eat some lemons from your tree, Tom. How cool would that be!
Thanks for popping in and posting. I'm hoping you might see some holly sprouts in Spring. Small holly trees can be bought for under 10 bucks in Spring but it depends on the variety and size. I can get 'blue boy/girl' shrubs about a foot tall for around 10 bucks each but they're inferior to 'blue prince/princess' so I only want one pair, not many of them.
Alright, guess I've rambled enough. It's been awhile!
: )
