![]() Added you to my buddy list for PM's
I won't have any seeds until late summer, but I can save some for you Last year I cut the trees short that run along the pool fence, sort of opens up the area I basically let the seedlings grow, then move them to different areas once larger It does take a few years for them to grow & flower from seed I have a stream on the side of the property, so they are perfect to help hold the soil in ![]() Red, I wish these were "carnation" style Can't seem to find a pic of the red Pink, supposed to be purple I guess ![]() White "carnation" ![]() Reg white: ![]() Purple ![]() ,,, Last edited by Scuba_Dave : 03-21-2011 at 09:31 PM. |

![]() Too small to show yet really, but I've got some carnivorous seeds popping in my aero-garden tonight...Drosera Capensis & Drosera Capensis Alba.
![]() I've always wanted to grow a sundew plant. Of course the seedlings will have to come out of my system soon, because the fertilizer will kill them, but they'll be ok for a few days. ![]() What attractive sprouts those are, JaNan! ![]() : ) |

![]() ![]() These are really growing very fast. I may have to take a few out and put them in soil just to see what will happen. I put a bunch of these in my salad last night (which I will post in the "dinner" thread - and you can't even tell anything is missing. They were delicious too, by the way! ~J

![]() This picture, which I posted once before shows last year’s castor bean plant to the left of the banana. It is a very attractive plant, but poisonous. I do not know how it compares with oleander, Rhododendron or other poisonous garden plants, but the fact, that the seed pods are so attractive makes the especially dangerous to inquisitive children. So be warned. I collected seeds, - plenty of them. I first soaked them for about 24 to 30 hours in plain warmish tab water in a 26^C environment. This photo shows in the upper row three seeds prior to soaking and the lower row 3 after soaking. Then I placed them on top of some moist soil in an empty strawberry container, which allows with the lid closed some ventilation, while keeping most of the moisture in. After two or three days they looked like this, all shriveled back to the state before soaking. Since I only wanted 2 or 3 plants, I had the luxury to split my seeds into 3 parts: 1/3rd I tossed back into the water and left them there, 1/3rd I left on top of the soil and the last 1/3rd I buried lightly. As you can see in this picture, there was no contest. The seeds in the soil won hands down. I still have seeds left. I’ll be pleased to stick them into an envelope and send then to anybody, who wants some. Just PM me your mailing address. Best, Olaf

![]() I knew those seeds looked familiar but I couldn't quite place them.
![]() Olaf... It looks like you have the purple/red leaf variety. I wonder, do your sprouts look like this when they come up? Are they the same color as mine were in the picture? ![]() The person who sent me them told me they were the purple castor bean and when I grew one last year the leaves were purple-ish but it got hit with frost before it could mature. It wasn't quite as richly colored as yours is so I wonder if your sprouts look like mine did? Yours is a gorgeous specimen, by the way! ![]() : ) |

I don't know, Sherry, we have to look and see. So far mine haven't been exposed to too much light yet and probably won't be for another two or three days. Therefore they will probably remain pale yellow for the better part of a week yet, before we will know. But if you want some insurance in the meantime, I can certainly send you some seeds. I bought the one last year in May from a local amateur, when it was about 1 foot high. It grew to about 6', but developed seeds much sooner, as you can see in the picture. If you want to get it to that height before frost, you should get started soon. Best, Olaf

![]() That's certainly very kind of you, Olaf.
![]() So your seeds definitely were collected from that purple beauty in the picture? It's just stunning. The person who sent my seeds didn't tell me they were poisonous, or even what they were! ![]() I just can't get over how dark maroon yours is though. ![]() The seeds sprout super fast...like 3-5 days! ![]() : ) |
