Congrats Jem. Your plant looks great for having just made it through our cool winter. You will enjoy some delicious bananas from that plant.

Re: What's blooming in your garden? (bananas)
This Dwarf Brazilian was a runt compared to my others. The PStem is only around 5 feet tall. It didn't receive nearly as much water as the others. From planting to flowering was 16 months. The other one planted in the same yard was about 7-8 months. That one was planted underneath a rain gutter and received a lot of watering.

DC
pstem ~3', though it was about 4' when I trimmed it back in March ~15 months from 2 inch tc from Wellspring (9 months growing, then 5 months in coma, then about a month of renewed growing, then flower) This is my first musa inflorescence; it's pretty cool to finally see one in person

Re: What's blooming in your garden? (bananas)
First Dwarf Cavendish bloom in my yard. Pretty, but boy was it slow -- nearly 3 years from planting. I don't expect the speed you'd see in the tropics, but the faster varieties take half that in my cool climate.
Dwarf Brazilian near harvesting. Small bunch on a small plant, but they'll be delicious. First bloom for this unknown variety from Sunfish ("Not Mona Lisa"). Tough plant. Might be a Namwah type, but has some traits that don't fit. We'll see. Monthan. Must be close to being ripe. There's nothing for scale, but these bananas are BIG. Not African Rhino Horn big, but about 3" in diameter and will weigh more than a big Cavendish from the store. First bunch for this mat, but I'd guess it's still going to weight close to 50 pounds. I hope they taste good. Never tried this variety. [IMG][/IMG] Pisang Klotek bunch with some hanging time still to go. [IMG][/IMG] |

Re: What's blooming in your garden? (bananas)
Here's my dwarf red which is blooming for the first time. This bunch has seriously choked, so much so that it's hard to even see what's going on. Hoping to get at least a few tasty morsels from this bunch. Not sure it's going to have a long term home in my yard if it's going to choke on a regular basis.

Two questions: what is the flowering height of your twins? And were do you get the Azomite? I was considering to order it from Arbico, but with shipping it is kind of pricey.... |

Re: What's blooming in your garden? (bananas)
Hi there,
Nice meeting you both as well. Hope your new plant is doing well. Crazy Banana: My flowering height is 9.5ft - 10ft on both. I get mine from a few places; local hydroponics, Green thumb, but online you can get it anywhere. I never dealt with Abrico, but the 44lb price is good. Try here: AZOMITEĀ® Trace Minerals | California | Dealers and Distributors Good luck and put up some PICS and let us know how your new plant works out. Big Tony Quote:

What variety Tony? Looks a lot like Dwarf Brazilian from the photo.

Could that be a banana?
Last year there was a 40 high musa basjoo on this spot. I transplanted it, because
it was overwhelmed by close-by Canna Australia (again in this photo) and Castor Purple New Zealand and did not do so well. Now this thing is sticking out its curious little head. It could not be anything from previous years, because it is in a large planter, which I converted from a small pond only last spring. I know, that I got the whole corm, because I transplanted it with a big lump of soil around it and it is growing. The newcomer has a top, which appears a bit too rounded for a basjoo, but it certainly does not have the purplish-brown colour that other C. Australia sported. I know, all I have to do is wait a week or two and it will become evident, but it is fun to speculate. Try your luck, Olaf
