Could that be a banana?
Last year there was a 40” high musa basjoo on this spot. I transplanted it, because
it was overwhelmed by close-by Canna Australia (again in this photo) and Castor Purple
New Zealand and did not do so well. Now this thing is sticking out its curious little
head.
It could not be anything from previous years, because it is in a large planter, which I
converted from a small pond only last spring. I know, that I got the whole corm, because
I transplanted it with a big lump of soil around it and it is growing. The newcomer has a
top, which appears a bit too rounded for a basjoo, but it certainly does not have the
purplish-brown colour that other C. Australia sported.
I know, all I have to do is wait a week or two and it will become evident, but it is fun to
speculate.
Try your luck,
Olaf
