My 1000 Fingers has two bunches. Flower emerged 8 and 6 weeks ago. The 8 week one (first 2 pics) has already stopped making fruit, but the 6 week one (3rd pic) is still going.

For comparison, the measly bunch I got from my first harvest off this mat. I began giving it far more sulfate of potash and it seemed to have helped.

3rd generation Double Mahoi, only single however, but a big bunch.

My first Dwarf Namwah. About 2 years to flower from a small pup closely planted and more shaded than most of the yard, or would have been faster.

Default Chicken salad with banana blossom

My wife has just made reservations at the classiest restaurant we have ever eaten in,
but because it is in Vietnam, it is very affordable, price wise comparable to a lower
mid-range place here in North America.

They sent us an a la carte menu with the confirmation. I got a giggle our of the first
appetizer listed:

Chicken salad with banana blossom, steamed rice cake with dried shrimp and
roasted pork.” (that one is about $5.-)

The main courses range from $7.- to $ 21.-, the last price buys you:

Herb crusted rack of lamb
Australian rack of lamb served with mashed potato, ratatouille and red wine sauce

To get an idea of how snazzi the place is look here:
Our finest dining in Vietnam - a set on Flickr

This will be our third visit there. I am already licking my chops

Well, it is not "blooming in my garden", but it will be on my plate shortly

My idea of top quality Vietnamese food is Bun Tom, Tit Nuong Cha Gio or Banh Xeo with Ca Phe Sua Da.

Lang Van restaurant, Charlotte, NC.

Air fare is cheaper and the food is wonderful.

Even for me, coming from Canada, the air fare would be cheaper to Charlotte,
but if I want to stick around for a while, the savings in Vietnam catch up rapidly.

I spent 9 months in south VietNam in 1970 and never ate VN food. Just army food. Had to wait till 1992 to find out how good it was on moving to NC. At least I got to use the Vietnamese I still remembered to place an order. lol

Good for you!

English is my second language. I spoke another one (beside my native) well enough to
discuss any subject, but that was ½ century ago and I have not been back since. I also
can get simple ideas across in three or 4 others, but I have never even tried any of the
South East Asian languages, because the are tonal, rather than literal and I would be too
afraid to put my foot, where it does not belong.

Come think of it, we do have a Vietnamese restaurant less than 20 km (12 miles) from our
house, which was recommended to us by a Vietnamese couple, but it was disappointing.
They slapped the food on the plate, like everybody else does here, outside of expensive
eateries. Nothing of that artistic presentation, which you get in Vietnam even with 3
and 4 dollar dishes.

Gros Michel

2nd bunch currently blooming on my Tall Namwah mat

My First Dwarf Namwah

1000 Fingers. 3rd currently blooming on same mat. Amazing how small the inflorescence starts out.

Ice Cream falling over as usual. 1 month since bud emerged. They are basically bluish as soon as they form, and look nothing like the Dwarf Namwah fruit which is about 2 weeks behind it.

Rob --- how come so many of your fruiting pstems are leaning to such a degree? Soil so dense that pups can't push laterally before emerging?

Everything looks real good otherwise.

It is my understanding ( and personal experience) that the "real deal" Blue Java is a "leaner".

All the Ice Creams lean, but this particular one blew over almost totally in a storm and is now propped up in 3 directions. I lose more than half my Ice Cream bunches due to this leaning. Sucrier is another big leaner, but not quite as bad. Namwah, Dwarf Namwah, and 1000 fingers lean some, but I've not had them topple over. My last 65lb Namwah bunch never even had to be propped up.

It's bits of soil amongst chunks of lava rock with mulch on top! But pups just push the rock out of the way. It's kind of amazing. But what also tends to happen is mats rise, because they can't push the rock down. With Ice Creams, I've even totally replanted them deeper, and they still always need to be propped.

Here is what my lot was like when I started, and what it is like below anything I plant. The 2nd picture is the hole left once I removed another Ice Cream that fell over.

This is what I call Manzano I believe it's a sport or mutation because of the height, this plant 8'9" p-stem. The bunch consist of only 6 hands, 5 have 14 to 15 fingers and one with 10 a total of 82 fingers.

Just got back from seeing the family and I got two Christmas presents outside- Blooms on my Double Mahoi and SH 3640!!!

I can't get a decent photo on the Double Mahoi, but here is my SH 3640.....

The odd thing to me is that it is blooming at +/- 6.5' and was a little fat pup about 6 months ago. I wish I had a picture, but it wasn't more than a foot tall. I shouldn't have a case of mistaken variety because I got this one from a very respected source.
