My busted & broke Manzano from this thread:
Let it keep going or......
kept growing and is sending up a flower.

My Raja Puri is putting out a flower.

My Ice Cream (probably not, so go ahead and confirm it as Pisang Awak or something else for me) continues.

Along with my not-dwarf-Namwa bunch and my Gran Nain bunch previously posted, looks like I will set with bananas in a couple of months.

OK, since you asked for it: definitely not Ice Cream. Definitely Pisang Awak.

Nice bunches!

At least you didn't say Namwa. I thought it looked a whole lot like the picture of PA that you posted a couple of frames up.

Well, Namwah is a Pisang Awak variety. It's all semantics. Yours will taste like Namwah.

Well at least my not-dwarf-namwa and the Pisang Awak will be getting ripe fairly close to each other so I can compare. If close enough in taste, we can decide which we like better and replace the other with a different variety or keep both.

That'll be a good comparison. Let us know what you think. I can't distinguish by flavor any of the Pisang Awak varieties (dwarf Namwah, tall Namwah, "Not Ice Cream", "Not Belle", "Not Misi Luki"). Sometimes they are better than others, but that seems to have more to do with when they were grown (season), how well they were cared for, etc.

My namwah for the second time since May. The first time didn't take because we were in the midst of tropical storm Debby which dumped a ton of rain on us and I think it messed everything up, so this time of course we are in the midst of Hurricane Sandy, but this time no rain and it's getting far enough away the winds should subside soon, so fingers crossed this one will go all the way!

Hey Mark,
1. How long have you had the rose before it flowered?
2. Is your Rose mat established or is this the first one you have that
flowered?
3. What size is the P-stem?
4. Have you tasted the Rose banana fruit yet?

I have a Rose Naner from Jon Hoping for a bud next year. Love the leaves on this naner.

BTW Awesome! Hope it makes it through the winter.

Big Tony

Yes, mine is from Jon, too. It took two years to bloom. They pup like crazy, so there is already a pretty big mat, but this is the first bloom. You can't tell from the photo, but it is a very small bud. The fruit are starting to show and they are very small. The p-stem is 7.5' tall and very slender. There's a couple other plants on the mat that are taller and a bit thicker, which I would guess would flower soon. We'll see if these fruit make it through our cool but not cold winter. I have not tasted fruit from this variety yet. But it is a beautiful plant, as you say. Very slender and erect.

Mark,
if you don't, My suggestion on the rose is use the Agribon50 frost cover, it will help over the winter, I will be using them on mine this year, last winter mine did not fair well uncovered lesson learned, but they came back to 5ft this year, I lost a year.

Yes the rose naners have very skinny p-stems. Congrats again! Thanks for the information.

I'll leave the last adjective alone

Big Tony

Good suggestion Tony. Mine did fine last winter without covering -- no dieback -- probably in part because I'm close to the ocean so I got no frost, and also because they are next to the house and benefit from the trapped heat. Maybe I will protect this bunch, though.
