After murdering all my frost bitten bananas it felt good to create and not destroy. Just got four 3 year old Muscadine grape vines from Willis Orchards in GA. They are Black Noble, Blanc du Bois, Black Southland and Southern Dixie.

Soaked the roots in well water for 7 hours, trimmed roots to 6 inches and potted them up. Last winter I would have taken a chance at planting in the ground. No way this year.

When I left Charlotte, NC four years ago my small orchard was headed for the first fruiting year - #3. Never got to see or taste the fruit. Oh well, when the buyer offers full asking price on the house it's not so painful after all, oh yeah!

Now I have to forget about training and pruning American bunch grapes and learn about southern Muscadines. From 4 cordon Kniffen to Geneva double curtain here we go!!!

And if I see one whisker of the neighborhood bobcat show over the fence ......... he's BBQ!!!!!

I live in lake worth and have had no luck with Muscadines. It's my favorate kinda grape but they hang in there for 2 or 3 years then just die. So good luck and keep me posted on your grapes bananimal I want hear that some one will succeed.

OK this is the year I've decided to take some of the potted Bananas and try them in the ground. So iv been digging holes all week yes thats right all week .LOL are soil is made up of many layers of interlocking coble stones so digging is a chore. I've tried to make the holes big 40" across and 2.5ft deep. I'm sure they will have lots of trouble growing roots beyond the confines of the holes I've dug but i think thats big enough for them. I'm puting two Ice creams and one dwarf Brazilian in the ground. I'm hoping they grow better. The Ensete Ventricosum i grew from seed last year are going in to a bed on the east side of my house. I'm thinking they will do the best here sins they like sandy soil and fairly low levels humidity.

I planted an SH3840 after removing two pups, as well as a Dwarf Namwa and a FHIA23 day before yesterday, just in time for this Cold Snap. All bundled but we won't know if there was any damage for a while...

Last week I rescued several banana plants from JD Andersen's in De Luz. Yesterday I cleaned them up and potted them in a mixture of worm castings, scorria, horticultural sand, and ground peat -- well, most of them anyway. I ran out of that mixture and potted the rest in some Kellogg's Nitrohumus that has been aging in the garage for a year. Anyway, the idea is to get them healthy again. After that occurs, I will be sending them out to the folks who reserved them. The varieties are: Ty Ty Gold, Williams, Saba, Popolou, Praying Hands.

Today I potted up my Truly Tiny again. It is TRULY TINY!!
The P stem is a hair over 3 inches LOL
Got it from a friend in summer '06 when it had tiny roots & the whole thing musta been about 2 inches incl roots!
It just came out of square pot 3 inches, & into 6 inch (wide) round pot. What nice healthy big roots it has! I'm sure itll really take off now. Can't wait till it gets fruits!

This morning I planted another TC Kru from a-starts. It rooted into a 3 gallon pot in less then 3 months using a 0-0-22.

Yesterdays post by the banana commander was very motivating! The "indigenous banana" seeds I know will do well under his care. Best wishes!
