It was a juvenile. He got his foot trapped. When I tried to chase him down ( 3:00 AM-do not ask...) he lost the trap. However, he must have been hurt enough to not to return.

I didn't kill it. It was a contract hit.
Had 5 big pine trees removed from around the yard, to get more sunlight for plants. Here is a picture of the remains of the second largest. At ground level the trunk diameter was over 30" (stump was just about in line with the front of farthest trunk piece to the left, where the ground is all torn up), the over head branch span was about 50' diameter (basically reaching out over my Namwa mat, FHIA 17 mat, Non-Ice Cream mat, grapefruit tree, some palm trees and my fence (for perspective, from the where the trunk was to the fence is about 9-10'). ![]() Here is the Non-Ice Cream mat after I removed all the broken leaves after the pine was gone. It was about 7' away from the trunk. A few months ago I dug up and potted a pup from there, just in case the whole mat got busted. I will probably end up planting the potted one, and getting rid of that mat. The namwa mat is just at the left edge of the picture. ![]() Very impressive to watch the 4 man crew take those trees down with just chainsaws and ropes (and a bobcat for moving the trunk pieces). Ok, I haven’t been on this forum for some time. I’m still shell shocked from what happened. But I figure its time to get up and start over. I got back from a two year deployment in Afghanistan in May to find that my favorite Bananas were all casualties of war. I left them with my Mom, she tried her best I know, but they didn’t make it.
My Favorite was the Variegated Namwa in the first several pictures. It had beautiful yellow variegation with a hint of cream white when grown in the shade and a brilliant lite green on green variegation when the leaves got older and it got more sun. The pictures are in order from pup to adulthood. The second was a variegated dwarf Namwa with a distinctly different variegation shown below. More of a cream yellow and grey green. The third was my AeAe that I adopted from Tony. (Sorry Tony) On a positive note, the Dwarf Red, Goldfinger, Dwarf Cavendish and siam ruby survived. I know I can eventually find another AeAe, but the other two seem to be impossible to find now. If only I had them long enough to get pups, I could have shared them and maybe have gotten one back. |

About 100 volunteer palm seedlings -- one of which was coming up in my Concord Grape planter. Maybe by this time next year I won't have anymore. I've paid for the removal of all palm trees within 200 feet of my property.

Most of my spinach patch. Apparently the freeze is bad for newly emerged leaflets. Who knew?
