First Bunch Ever!!!!!!!
The last guess at the variety was manzano (dwarf size)
About 20lbs.
So what do you recommend that I do so that it ripens the best? I currently do not have a great place for it to hang. The yellowing caught me by surprise. Any guess on when I should start trying them? Thanks.

Pick a few fingers from the top hand that have blemishes on the yellow. They would be the ripest. I see a few in the pic.

Hang the bunch off the kitchen sink counter to ripen like I do with 120 lb fishing line and a bracket. And cut off the friggin flower stem.

Try one of the ripest ones now. They don't look that much like Manzano, and if they're not, the top ones look perfectly ripe. Take a photo of a cross section that shows the thickness of the peel. I think they may be Brazilian, which has a thick peel, whereas Manzano has a thin peel. If the peel is thin and the bananas are a bit astringent at this point, they are Manzano.

Thanks everyone! Peel is definitely thicker than the manzanos that I can buy in the store. (I'll post a picture later) I ate two this morning, I think it needs to be a little ripper (no green at all on the tip, they all still have some) The riper one I had was very good. It was sweet and a little tart with a smooth smooth creamy texture that was slightly firmer than a regular banana. I wouldn't call the flavor "apple", like the manzanos at the store. I'll have to eat a few more and do a real report. So I think we can call it a Brazilian now can't we?

By the way, I left the flower stem on just for that picture. It was a small bunch, so I tried to do something to make it look a little more impressive

Yep, sounds like Brazilian, or at least a close relative also in the Pome subgroup. One my favorites.

The only thing not so characteristic of the Brazilian is the shorter fruiting height and the bracts falling off if it is a dwarf. I'll try giving it more food and see if the height gets in line with what is typical for the tall variety. Oh well it tastes good anyway.

The tall variety can fruit pretty short, 10' or so, if it isn't all that happy.

Harvested 3 bunches of DB a few weeks before they were due to ripen on the plant so I can have something to sell at the farmers market. Harvested the Gros Michel about a month early (at 3 months) because the plant toppled in some strange southerly wind gusts. In trying to prop it up and save it the bunch snapped off. I'm hoping these ripen properly. I've harvested others at 3.5 months which turned out ok.

3 DBs on the left, the GM on the right.

Goldfinger bunch harvested exactly 4 months and 10 days after flower popped.

Ten days too late. Look at all the ripe ones that broke off. Most are still ok though.

I need to get up on a ladder and grade mine. I bagged them in late August.

Creamwah!!!!

First crop off of this mat. A little over 22 pounds, seven hands. Yesterday it was green, tonight while walking the dog saw that it was yellow and the peel of two fingers split. You gotta watch them. Recommendations on when to start eating anyone?

I think when any one fruit is totally yellow it's good to go on namwah. Try them at different stages. I'd think at least the ripest one in that bunch would be decent the next day after the picture.

For my taste, absolutely not a speck of green and some brown/black on the peel. The more brown/black on the peel, the sweeter they will be.

Let me revise, I meant good to go on tasting them when all yellow, maybe some green on the pedicel. But I like them more ripe, they probably aren't their best that way, but edible, and since you have a whole bunch, see when you like them best. A some green cavendish or GM is good, but awful on a Namwah. I think some brown is better, then at some point the middle gets corky, as has been mentioned before by caliboy and myself. The taste is still good, but the texture declines.

Well I tried one this morning, it had some green on the stem but otherwise yellow. I think some brown would do it good. Its barely sweet and has minimal tartness, leaving a slight dry mouth astringent taste. Texture right now is firm and reminds me a little of a boiled egg. No cork yet.
