I transferred the following to my pergola plat and planted them on the ground:
Red Savina Habanero is the hottest pepper on Earth
siling labuyo (one Philippine hottest pepper)
babaco
1 Early girl tomato

I planted small marigold & some cosmos. Marigold are good for keeping rabbits away. Other veggies & 'maters I'll start seeds or small plants outside in garden.
We reached 61* today!!! I'm thinking SPRING!!
Still snow in my yard :( but I'm sure it'll melt fast now.

potted up 100 chinese fan palms there all about 1'6" and potted up red cannas and yellow canna and planted 100s of canna seeds all different types

did u plant the seeds or a plant im waiting on seeds from the black and white ones they have been sowed forever if u planted seeds let me know if they germinate quickly or maybe i got junk seeds its been a month now and im inpatient i cant wait any longer

:goteam:Today's the day!!! Yup this is it , THE BIG ONE. For me it's the official start of spring, yup it's TOMATO PLANTING DAY Every year I plant one early , 2 or 3 old favorites and try a new one. This years early is Moskvitch, Brandywine and Prudens purple are my all time favorites. Japanese Black Triffle, a smallish ,great tasting oxheart shaped tomato first grown last year and was good enough to bring back and this years new addition is Cherokee purple( when I first joined Richard had posted some pics of these and gave them a great taste rating).:goteam:

Some kind of philodendron thing that was once a house plant, been on the porch 9 months. Put it under a nanna.

On deck for next weekend : Galphimia gracilis (golden thyrallis), Feijoa sellowiana (pineapple guava or guavasteen), and a few others

I had to read up on Miracle Fruit to find out what it was. It supposedly makes sour food sweet! And was proposed for dieters and diabetics.
Has anyone tried it and what was it like? What do you use it for most?

183 chestnut trees and 1 Royal Rainier cherry (with the help of a backhoe and planting crew of five workers). The chestnut tree planting is part of an expansion project since I had this part of my field cut off from the rest of my farm (gas field operator added this road last year).

They are spaced only 7' apart and I will remove half of them in about 4-5 years.



Note that just above my orange Kubota tractor off in the distance (probably 70 miles or more) you might barely see snow on the Sierra Nevada Mountain range.

Transplanted my Hylocereus undatus (Night Blooming Cereus or Dragon Fruit). Hoping for good flower and fruit production this year.



This is a 10" pot, but the cell phone picture makes it appear much smaller.

Moonshiner - My dragon fruit seeds (the magenta fleshed type) germinated in 2 days but have been slow to progress since then. But it has been cold and very wet since then. Now they are about 2 inches tall with spines and looking like cactus.

Also planted coriander, cherry tomatoes, squash - more when it warms up!!

I bought seeds (very expensive) few yrs ago & not one germinated. Maybe I gave up too soon.

Hey Patty, I can send you some small bulbs of the Tacca integrifolia if they can slip past the post. I know a couple of places why there's heck lot of them like grass. I just yanked 2 big plants for a sucker friend who pay $18 for 2 at some nursery. I told him to check with me about endemics before buying but he didn't listen. I have seen the T borneensis (all black flower) but can't remember where. Long ago, I got a pure green flowered plant from Thailand which grows under the full sun. Cool plant. :drum:

Two Colocasia esculenta "Black Magic" and 3 Tacca chantrieri 'black' "Bat Flower"

Also re-potted an orphaned orchid of unknown species left to die. We call it Oncidium Mysterioso, and believe we can work some Dr. Frankenstein magic on it.

Well not today exactly, in the last week...

Fished out 3 water lily corms and potted them, they are now in the "nursery tank".

My ginger (edible) bed now has 10 shoots from 2" to 8".

The plants rescued from Lowes (1/4 price) have all responded to sun water and a bit of food and have started to bloom.

The butterfly garden is in now and my night blooming jasmine has buds.

Got a great deal on a bird of paradise 2 gal pot that had 5 healthy plants, have separated them and they have started to put out new leafs.

today i potted up:( its a long list....lol)
peas, pumpkins( for some of that wonder pumpkin preserves that someone graciously put on here....lol), marigolds, green onions, regular spanish onions, shirley poppy seeds,carrots, yellow was beans.
3 days ago i planted( and they are already 3 inches tall:
yellow squash, zucc, indian corn, white sweet corn, green beans.
these are only just up put the ground:sage, tarragon, and the like.
so in a few weeks we will be making our edible landscape a reality.
all thats left to plant is tomatoes, and parsley and a BUNCH of flower seeds, and sunflower seeds.

Today I potted up 3 dragon trees (dracaena draco) from a bed they germinated in -planted March 1st. I snuk 4 berries/seeds from a bunch on a 30 yr old tree here at our public domes.
The biggest is 1 1/2 inches & roots are almost 3" long! Waiting for 1 more to germinate.
Too soon to plant out...we has a blizzard last night & snow on ground :(

Planted "Ailsa Craig" exibition onions, they're on both sides of the garden. These grow to impressive softball size. My smallest bananas will be going next to them. The plan is that when the bananas start getting larger by say July , the onions will hbe ready for harvest. I stole this friom lorax' article on mixed culture and adapted it for home use.

Today I potted up my Dragon Fruit ( undatus and guatemalensis) and sowed(sp?) 15 seeds of and unknown cultivar of prickly pear....hope my kids learn fast not to touch daddy's plants!! Indoor garden sowing next week...can't wait!

80 rhubarb gallon pots, 18 hanging baskets, 30 flats of tomatoes/peppers/eggplants.
Last week Dad came down and helped me and he did 250 pots of ornamantal grass (gallons) and 72 butterfly bushes (gallon pots). I can't thank him enough. At the same time Mom and I did 250 flats of tomatoes in a few days time. So we're almost ready for spring. But it's supposed to be snow flurries again on Monday

Howard, I dug up about 50 Japanese Irises where I planted my Ae Ae but still have many more as they've been there since long before we bought the place 15 years ago and keep spreading. Can they over-winter in the ground there?

Harvey- I dug up some Japanese Iris when we put in the pond last spring as they were in the way. What with many other things going on they ended up spending the winter on my patio lying on top of 2 old hanging baskets. They're already sending up new fans!

Planted they do fine also. :ha:
