Today I planted a Lord Howe Island Banyan tree. Jeff Earl gave it to me yesterday. he had just moved it up from a 15 gallon pot into a larger stone pot and he had a hard time pulling it out as the roots had really filled up the pot. It's about 5' tall and the trunk is about 1" in diameter. He just didn't have room for it and told me it should grow like a weed until we get a winter down to 24F or so. In the meantime, I can dream of building a tree house in it and swinging from vines some day when I'm really old! LOL

I planted a bunch of tomato, pepper, cuke, summer squash & pumpkin plants from my sunroom to the greenhouse. It was a LOT hotter yesterday then I thought it would be.

Still a lot more to plant
I think I have 100+ tomato plants
Pepper seeds took a long time to germinate & grow
I'll need to start them earlier next year
I had notes on last years calender on germination time frames
But the wife threw the calender out
So now everything is on the computer

I planted chard seeds today, and catgrass, and also repotted some succulents, and put out some aloe cutting to see if they root.

I only counted each planting once - even tho in some cases there may be 2-3 plants in that planting

Over 112 tomato plants
Over 3 dozen pepper plants
Over 3 dozen cukes
Over 3 dozen summer squash
Lots of carrots, lettuce, beans, peas, zucchini
not sure what else

Let's see...knockout roses, hibiscus (in planters), a black elephant ear plant, clematis, needle palm, pindo palm , and an asiatic lily plant. Last week, I finished my garden plantings of cukes, tomatoes, peppers, some squashes, and a watermelon plant to go with my lettuce and chives. (My basjoos are almost ready to go in the ground, I can't wait!)

The tires thing works well for tomatoes here. It insulates the roots better than mulch - I've had frost-damaged ones come back out of tires and produce. We used the big tractor tires when we could get them, but smaller ones work fine too. /lateresponse

Finally planted the bell pepper and creeping thyme for the balcony garden! Also Corsican mint and chamomile, which is getting ready to bloom four days after transplant. :3

I can honestly say I don't know who Kate Moss is, Bob! We don't watch TV in our house because things are hectic enough as it is and I get all the drama I need right here at the org! :ha: Besides, my wife is beautiful in many ways and I really try to look the other way and drag my tongue in before I get to the point of thinking of another woman as "hot" :D

Jazz, your use of the word reminds me of how terms can mean different things in different areas. About 70 miles to the west of me is wacky San Francisco (IMO) where they scream about the heat wave if it gets to 75F! And then, in my area, we call this stuff that messes up your hair a "Delta breeze" even though this so-called breeze is often blowing 15mph or more.

Okay, back on topic....an hour ago I did my first ever division of a heliconia, the variegated "Tiger" heliconia (sorry, I can't remember those fancy genus and species names). I bought this plant a year or so ago and it was busting out of its 5 gallon pot. I'm took off two cuttings with well-rooted shoots just like my expert friend from Puerto Rico told me to and am going to be cautious on the watering until they're growing as he tells me I can rot them real easy. One will go to a friend and the other will be a back-up because I want to try growing one of these outside near my home's heating unit. Wish me luck!

Yesterday I planted about 30 baby marigolds around the veggie garden. I'll see if it keeps bunnies out.
At Mike's house I made a 3' X 30' (or more) "tropical Island" w/ 4 nanas, 7 brugmansias, tiny EE's, scattered reg & red caster beans, colorful swiss chard, & some cosmos along sides. When 4 caladiums sprout in pots, they will go there too. Should look nice if & when we ever get summer.
I never heard of Kate Moss. Maybe I should plant some of that too?

Planted a Madagascar Palm and a Cycad (cycas revoluta) - the Sago Plam. Managed to cut the heck out of my hands with the Madagascar palm - those things are wicked.

This week:
10 Green globe artichoke, 18 'wowie zowie' (or w/e) zennia, 5 tainang Papaya, large leaf Italian, blue African, pesto perpetuo, columnar, and several other basils, pentas, wonderful and sweet pomegranate, 3 red passiflora, 26 assorted figs, 11 pineapple guava, many more coleus cuttings, 2 Elaegnus multiflora, ..........and the place still looks bare :P

harvey,are you taking the mick:ha:well it was hitting 100 degrees in the greenhouse,only 10 yesterday,and raining,ive bought some of my banana plants indoors ,they really dont like the cold weather especially the musa zebrina,they seem to close there leafs in the cold,kept them in the house and now the leafs have gone flat and they are smiling at me:woohoonaner:thanks for your reply,it was funny:ha:take care best wishes jazz:nanadrink:

I planted 2 Lime Zingers, 1 Calidora EE, 2 Black Magic, 1 variegated hydrangea, 1 variegated hibiscus, 3 tropicana canna, and 1 pink Brug (thanks Pete).

I planted a Meyers Improved Lemon & a Mexican Lime, so excited to see them keeping my Miho Satsuma & Kinnow Mandarin company!

I'm going to be transplanting perennials from other areas
Liatris, black eyed susan. some hosta, white daisy

I have about 1/2 an acre
But I've converted a lot of spaces to gardens
I have a post & beam fence along the front & the side
I hate mowing along a fence so the front fence has a garden
It curves around to the side about 16'
Now I'm extending it another 16'
Eventually it will extend all the way along the side fence

I'm only extending it 16' long by 2' wide

As of this morning i had 5 out of 9/10 of my papaya seeds germinated. They are in one of my 45gal smartpots. I was going to move my larger papaya tree but decided it looks too sick and better to start over. The larger one had fruit on it last summer when I got it but stopped growing/fruiting after transplanting it. I'm not planning on ever transplanting these. Just thin them out.

Well the 16' x 2' extension has turned into about 50' x 2'
I decided to go all the way along the side fence
And we have had miserable weather so slow going
I'm digging out the grass - about 30' along

On the plus side my monarda (sp?) will be blooming soon
And that means humming birds !!

I had the intention of keeping this a minimalist garden, didn't happen
Its about 50' long running down the side fence
Starts out at 32" & drops down to 24" at the back chain link fence
