Thanks, guys, for the updates. You've got some nice growth going on there. We've been too cool here in NorCal to get very rapid growth. I think we've only gone above 90F one day so far this year but have had other days in June where we've stayed below 80F. Hope it warms up soon. Look forward to seeing photos of more of your Ae Ae pups!

There is a quote from the movie "field of dreams" with Kevin Costner (if you build it they will come!) and I think "they" are starting to show up.

Do the appearance of pups mean a flower is coming or not necessarily?
They look awesome, Greenie. Thanks for the update. They are just going to looking so beautiful when they just become one long wall of variegated nanas. Do you think you will let them form mats and spread out, or do you plant to separate and plant other areas? |

They are really starting to take off now.
How many pups are peeking through the soil line so far overall? Do the different strains pup at different rates that you noticed?

No,butThey look very stocky and are thick all around.
Quote:
The plan is to cut them before they fruit and divide and separate any pups produced. Some will be replanted, some will be donated, and I think Nanaman will be holding some sort of contest or something like that for this forum and its members.Quote:
Some members have been asking Me on what plant care, nutrition, etc.,so I have posted a link to a thread which is the "Handbook" that I am currently applying. here is the link, info is found on page 3 of this thread.-enjoyAe Ae's and pups Last edited by LilRaverBoi : 07-06-2010 at 02:32 PM. One more question if you don't mind: where can I read about and find information about the different strains of AeAe that you have referred to? You don't have to take the time to educate me, but if you can point me in the right direction to look. I'm going to go check out those links that you and Harvey posted. I wasn't aware that there are different strains. Would you be able to tell me which strain I have? Here are some pictures. Thanks.

Clare
The term(strain) has no official ranking status in plants and botany. It refers a term to describe the collective descendants produced from a common ancestor that share a uniform morphological or physiological character. This could be a genetic mutation or something else. In this growing trial, we have planted 3 different Ae Ae collected from 3 different sources.I am no expert but I can easily see in growing pattern how one of the sample plants out grows the other by an easy margin. These plants have all been planted using the same medium, soil, fert, water etc.... I have come to the conclusion that one of the strains has a better genetic mutation than the other two. Again,I am no expert and I am growing these as a hobby as I have always done. on a side note, none of the plants from the project show the strong pink that your plant is showing in the top of the leaf center or midrib.
