Hello from South Florida,
I'm just getting into bananas and I find that I prefer the ones with a good bit of sour/subacid flavors to them. This community looks to be the best source of banana knowledge so I look forward to reading the previous threads and learning. I have a canal bank that I would like the fill with a few sturdy banana varieties. Thinking of Raja Puri, and possibly some others. Currently I'm growing on the side of my house: Dwarf Cavendish, Mystery Banana from India (Kerala) Mysore (I think) ![]() ("Mysore" foreground, Mystery (mid 2), DC background) I plan on replacing these with Cuban Red and Kandarian (hard time finding this in Broward, FL). I want a nice tall sturdy bananas on the side of my house. Well that is my story for now. Thanks Last edited by skhan : 08-22-2017 at 04:00 PM. |

Welcome to bananas.org.
Mysore varieties like Pisang Ceylon or Pisang Klotek will be right down your alley if you like bananas with a sub acid flavor, tall plant. Manzano is another possibility, sturdy plant. In your growing zone 10B you should be able to grow pretty much any variety. |

I was going to say Manzano, too... Maybe Veinte Cohol, but I have never had it but I hear it's pretty tart. Brazilian is tall and pretty tart as well, but not as much as Manzano.

What it seems I actually have: Brazilian, Cavendish, Namwah, Dwarf Red, Gros Michel, Pisang Ceylon, Veinte Cohol and SH 3640, and American Goldfinger. FHIA 1, Paggi and FHIA 17... Always room for one more. |
