Re: How to cut them down for inside storage
Unless the ground is heated, leaving a banana corm in the ground in central Wisconsin is certain death, unless it's a Basjoo or other very cold hardy specimen. Even then you'll need to keep the frost...

I covered some citrus, but not the large trees. I am heading out right now to see what the damage is and what I can do to help them all along.

It was 24.4 degrees this morning when I left to go to work (on my motorcycle). I'm not worried about any of the corms surviving, I am worried about the stems surviving so I can have fruit next...

I'll help you with an un-scientific experiment to see if your freezeproof is worth it or not. All my banana plants fried the last 2 nights, and are unprotected aside from the canopy of drooping...

Re: Apple banana need help
Moving to the shade possibly made the plant stretch for more light. I notice the yellowing and brown spots before the plants slow dow much. Cold and wet nights do it for me.
I'd keep them in full...

The corms will overwinter better in the ground mulched heavily, and kept dry, then if you kept them in pots. They are better insulated from freezing that way.
Good luck!

That's a great incentive, Harvey! I sure hope we can pick up those last 10! I thought for sure we'd be able to get 16 people off the west coast to sign up.
