The only pest/disease issue that I have seen transmitted to bananas in Giant Mexican Whitefly, and even that has had minimal effect. I can't imagine that tomatoes and watermelons could be a problem.

I just harvested this 78lb Namwa bunch. Took four months from flower to harvest in Pensacola, Florida. It was heavy!!

Never heard of a banana circle til I read your post. Although I've had great success planting nanas in old horse manure piles. Looked on line for example - Yes lots of permaculture sites on banana...
