I'm enjoying a giant perfectly ripe 14 oz. Tigua while posting.

On September 20, 2017 Hurricane Maria took the jungle canopy and smashed it to the jungle floor. That gave sunlight and an opportunity to grow for many plants. My jungle was littered with bananas growing wild for as far as I can throw and given the elevation that I'm throwing from they go far.

Looking down at the jungle the other day I noticed a large banana plant with a heavy lean and this morning it was missing from view. So I took a hike down the mountain and came back with a huge 80 lb. bunch of Iholena and also grabbed a small bunch of Manini on way.

Both of these bananas are great for hardwood grilling and get a nice smoked flavor.

First bunch of Reds coming in. Would like to know when most would recommend harvesting. They're starting to turn green, but wasn't sure how long to wait. Perhaps until there's yellowing too?

My very humble advice is to harvest several fingers and see how long they take to ripen and if there good. Unless you can leave them on till they ripen. I think another good way is to notice when one or two of the fruit start splitting, or being eaten by raccoons, which shows the fruit are starting to ripen. Anyhow, good luck!!!!!!!!!!!

These White Pisang Awak are probably the most interesting banana in our collection ( according to visitors )
and even though this is a terrible 64 lb. bunch it happens to be the largest one we've ever harvested from a Whitey.

We crossed this bunch with a variegated type so we are hoping to get some seeds that produce variegated bananas.

Let them fill more. They are not close to being ready for harvest.

Harvested this 3/4 filled bunch yesterday. Its mature enough to turn yellow and has enough meat on it to eat. We got hit with an early freeze down to around 28F in early November which is pretty unusual. I double bagged all my hanging bunches except for one. The trees are completely brown but the bagged bunches are green. The one bunch not bagged has turned black.
