Re: Ice Cream or Namwa?

My recollection is vague, but I recall that praying hand nana may not show the fussed fingers on the first year of flowering. You might recheck this, but don't throw that baby out with the wash...

Re: Ice Cream or Namwa?

I think it is also important for people who purchase banana plants to realize that they might not get the plant they purchased.

I purchased a Praying Hands and Red Kru banana plant from an online...

Re: Ice Cream or Namwa?

Be very careful when referencing information from MGIS. It is not an authoritative source by any means, it is only a reflection of what is held in various collections around the world, and all of the...

Re: Ice Cream or Namwa?

basically that's what I assumed. For Bluggoe & Orinoco as being synonymous may or may not be technically correct, but many nana-heads assume they are. Which again points out the problem of nana...

Re: Ice Cream or Namwa?

It's important to note that Orinoco is only in the blogge subgroup. And each listed accession is only different material collected from different locations. They could be the same they could be...

Re: Ice Cream or Namwa?

I know what you mean, but being happy with being cheated or lied to still doesn't make it right.
If you go out to dinner and order chicken and they give you steak, you might like that more, but it's...

Re: Ice Cream or Namwa?

I have both the "fake" 'Ice Cream', sourced as a tissue cultured plant, and the "real" 'Ice Cream', reliably sourced as a sucker.

In my opinion, under my growing conditions, and in the context of...

Re: Ice Cream or Namwa?

True, but unlike with politicians, people are usually pretty happy with what they were cheated with. Don't get me wrong, I love my Blue Java, but if I would have to choose between Blue Java or Namwah...

Re: Ice Cream or Namwa?

Not only do plants get sold under the wrong name but the end result is also being shared and shared under the wrong name. Most of my named bananas were wrong and the ones I have left unnamed will...

Re: Ice Cream or Namwa?

Personally I find it deplorable. The selling of the wrong variety, knowingly, simply because 90% will never know and 90% of the rest won't complain. It REALLY irritates me that they lie and cheat...

'Pink Velutina' producing fruit now, a first for me!

I started my plants ~18 months ago, and a flower popped up unexpectedly ~3 weeks ago. The picture shows the tiny pink bananas starting to form, as of yesterday.

How long does this species' fruit...

Re: Ice Cream or Namwa?

All of it is really sad. The problem is so bad now some sellers and online nurseries will substitute anything for anything just because others are doing it! I have a good friend who ordered several...

Rob: have you done a taste report on sweetheart, and does it consistently taste the same, or have you had some bunches that taste better than others?
