61. You measure the spear of your bananas to see how many cm they grow in 24 hours. And record them and compare them with the others.
62. You look and look and look at least 3 times a day to all of your banana pups if they have a new pups of their own. And when you found some of them you feel so good as if you have a one newborn. And so repeat it again and again each day. 63. You fill your plate with food and take your plate outside your yard and inspect your bananas and gulp your food in between inspection.

#68 You look at your neighbors greenhouse and think to yourself "If I stacked 4 of those, I could fit a Saba for the winter..."

I use about 4 - 8 lbs of horse manure compost in a 100 gallon horse trough . This is aerated with a bubble wand and a cheap aquarium pump . I let it brew for about 4 -5 days (more if it's cool outside). I also add a bit of sugar or corn syrup after a few days to ensure the feeding of the aerobic bacteria / fungi .
There are a lot of recipes out there and formulations for more fungal based or more bacterial based tea . I have only done this for three months and have seen remarkable improvements in my plants . I have plants in heavy clay soil and some in low areas . These plants often get wet feet regardless of my soil amendments . The grass in my lawn also suffers during extended wet periods . One could actually smell the sour , stagnant soil at times . The results were twisted leaves , browning ,chlorosis , and a myriad of fungal problems . The insects are also quick to prey on weakened plants. The solution ? First I realized that the soil was too acidic ,so I applied lime . Then I realised that I had to oxygenate the soil . I did this with hydrogen peroxide . My plants looked like new again and started to grow like never before . THe reason is that the beneficial organisms began to thrive in the oxygen rich breaking down of the peroxide . I look at this method (peroxide application) as I do chemical fertilizers , in my opinion they have their place but not in a sustainable program . When I found out about compost tea , I felt that it was the obvious solution . I have been applying it for almost three months now and my soil remains sweet regardless of our 'monsoon 2007 '. If I've overlooked a compost tea thread I apologize . Surely someone here is experienced with compost tea and will get a good thread going about it .I have found so many mixed stories about it and so many techniques that I just threw mine together to see what would happen . I am very glad that I did ! Last edited by Lagniappe : 07-07-2007 at 11:03 PM. Reason: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compost_tea |
