It's the "Sticky" thread at the top in the cold-hardy bananas forum HERE.
I might be losing my sense of humor digging them up and planting back out though, until I finally transition to dwarfs. I am 6'7", and the crawl space makes it pure misery on my back. It would be more fun if I had a full-sized basement, or room in the garage! |

You go to a local nursery and ask if they have any bananas that produce edible fruit. And, they respond that they didn't know we could actually grow bananas here. 31. When your wife tells you when you are ready to inspect your bananas at 6pm " Go and sleep with your bananas and don't come back!" and she locked you up outside.
32. And your wife tells you " I'm going to pour clorox in your bananas as a fertilizer".

you might be able to trade your wife for a few banana plants? If she can pull weeds, I've got some pups for ya. you might be... 33. when you start looking for room in a friend's yard to plant your bananas, because no room is left in yours. -Ethan |

34. you pause movies such as "The Mission " to figure out what Robert Deniro was doing to those banana plants- or - watch shows / movies filmed in tropical locales (regardless of the actual intrest in the program) to see what types of plants show up on the screen - or - You laughed at yourself for wondering if that was an E. Perrieri on "Madagascar" .

If I was a few years younger I would ... hmmmm. Might be worth doing anyway, just to shake up my kiddoes! LOL! Pictures - the design & the tat, when you get it done ... gimme some inspiration! And why am I reading this thread, thinking it all sounds like perfectly NORMAL behavior to me? Oh geez ... I'm too far gone to even recognize the signs of 'fiend-dom' - this looks like sensible tips to plantation planning! I need a 12-step program! Diana . |

Anna, the birds are great - non bird people don't quite get it, but the sheer intelligence in their eyes, and their actions is mind boggling. The Macaw seems to know everything that is going on, and he bursts out laughing before anyone else (people) when a joke is told. It must be the tone of voice we use, but he always seems to get the punchline! And the Amazon is plain scary, because things we said months before he all of a sudden blurts out! His vocabulary is huge, we've really got to watch our language around him!
As for the movie/tv thing, how true! I can't stand David Caruso, but I'll suffer watching him to see the great scenery on CSI Miami! Plenty of movies too, I definitely pause to see what that plant in the background is! ~Joe |

The guy behind me recently got a Cockatoo. Probably a Citron or a Moluccan.. I havent seen it, it's on the patio away from our sight, but it's 100% Cockatoo sounding.
The bird thinks its funny to call out my dog's name when it hears us in the yard. It's heard me call the dog's name enough that now it started to do it too. Smart little bugger. Drives my dog nuts but its really entertaining. ![]()

I would love to have a parrot here !
I've been askin santa for years ! I do have yellow billed cuckoos though . They eat the spiny / hairy caterpillars from our white oaks .You've probably heard their calls on "jungly movies" before . They migrate here from South American rain forest regions and their call is right on with the backyard jungle. |

35 . you consider potting up 6 banana plants in 20 gallon pots , dragging them in with the threat of low temps and back out when all is clear, but you absolutely cringe when its time to take out the dog .

You are so right about non bird people not getting it. Birds are so very intelligent! And the people who say they "just mimic" definitely do not know birds! I won't even get started because I'll write an essay before I know it. LOL!!! Our Moluccan has blurted things out that we know we haven't said to him. (We adopted him from an aquaintance two years ago in April.) Their memories are amazing! Our Sun Conure is our best talker though. And he really understands what's going on. The one thing that really got me was when one of my fish died, and I was crying. My Sun started saying "I love you" over and over and started sounded very agitated. So I went over to him and told him I was upset about the fish dying. Honest - he got quiet, then looked right at me and said in a quiet voice - "Fish. Sorry." |
