Hiya Re: Insomnia Thread...

Thank you Bob...stranger!

It would sure be nice to chat with you here more...you know you're my favorite!

Yeah, the palm looks awesome, eh? I love it and can't wait to plant it outside in Springtime...

Thanks Jack! No worries...I can root just about anything! Your plant sure is healthy and gorgeous, and I can't wait for mine to get that big too.

This is for you, Janan...

It's my little acrylic moon that changes colors with an LED light inside! You love lights so I thought you'd enjoy it. It's hangs in my window all year long...

You can also hear Henry chatting throughout the whole video but you might need headphones to hear it, at first he's saying "hi Nana" (my mom) and then "ouch" followed by "naughty naughty beak' and 'no biting, no biting' and then "ok", then "shoosh" along with 'Henry' and then something about "naughty little bird". I think he says 'mommies Buttons' at the end.

Also too this little masaic glass lantern is in my bathroom window with a candle in it...

Here's how it looks with the lightS off...

I light it all year round too.

Hiya Re: Insomnia Thread...

Well Gang, I'm back...

Thanks for the call, Bob!

As it turns out, Bob has to get up real early tomorrow so he called a little bit ago, but we could only chat for 15 minutes.

It was long enough though for me to discover that my good old New Jersey pal is three sheets to the wind on this Sunday Autumn evening!

Guess the beer's going down well tonight, eh Bob? Oh yeah, you have things to do and won't be able to join us anymore tonight. Likely more beer-drinking to do!

Too funny!

So yeah thanks Cam, about the rubber plant. if I can get a leaf cutting to root, I'll share a plant with you for sure.

Nice to see you around. Hope you had a good day.

Hi Sherry and everyone. I went to another Lowe's today and found a Thanksgiving cactus that has 2 colors. The top of the flower is a pale yellow and the bottom is pink. I'll be sure to post pictures when it opens more. Right now its hard to tell. Some blooms look more pink.

For your info smarty I was only 2 sheets to the wind when you decided you needed to bother me!..........and it happened to be Laphroig 15 year old single malt! Get it straight . I had to get up for my other hobby which I can't mention here anymore at 4 am so I was planning on going to bed very early and in great preparation....

Thanks for letting everyone know!: Guess pm's are now out of the question too since you've taken the "P " out of them. Go sit on an egg and see if it hatches! ( knowing your luck it probably will!!!!)

Pardon me Bob...I was a sheet off!

Just knew you were half cut, that's all!

I think that's the real reason why you had to get off the phone so quickly...because you couldn't keep up with the conversation...not because you had to get up early!

Your other hobby you can't mention here ???

Oh you mean knitting ?!

It's ok Bob, lots of guys knit...

just not doillies!

We're working on you knitting something a little more masculine though, aren't we?

Nice to see you quit being a snob and decided to post...finally. Let the real fun begin...

Janan!

Sorry I missed you last night, girl! I saw your pics though. Hope you're around tonight. Did you see the video I made for you with Henry chatting up a storm ???

Zac!

Great you stopped in to say Hi! I think you posted in the 'what kind is this' thread about your banana plant that's growing great for me here. I love that thing!

Nice to 'see' you again and hope things are well for you.

Cam!

I see you picked up another gorgeous beauty! Thanks for posting a shot for us. You're geting as obsessed as Janan and I are!

Jack...

I found out that the variegated rubber plants we have are best propagated by air layering, but that cuttings will also root in a soil-less medium also.

So who's around tonight ???

Hi Sherry! I'm here. Yes, I did see your changing color moon. That is very pretty. I love stuff like that. And fiber optics. I have a 3 foot tall fiber optic Christmas tree and Santa Claus and Angel that changes color like that. Oh, and a winter skating scene too.

That little Henry is one smarty pants! How old is he and when did he start talking for you? Did you get him when he was a baby?

Talking Re: Insomnia Thread...

Hi Janan!

So great you're here. I was posting in my new 'camera talk' thread...

Glad you saw the video and I can't wait to see your stuff too...it all sounds so lovely. I have a fiber optic little house with colored lights all around it...even the stairs leading up to the house light up! It's so cute. When I get it out, along with my reindeer, I'll show ya.

Yup, I got Henry when he was only a few months old as a little fledgling...he's a little over four years old now. He really is super intelligent and my mom calls him an "astute little professor"...no doubt he'll be saying this in no time too!

He repeats things I didn't even know he heard and he makes me laugh so hard sometimes with the things he blurts out. His voice is loud too, not quiet when you're in the room with him. Tonight he was saying "you're an adorable little bird boy" over and over. It was just hilarious.

He said his first word when he was between 6-8 months old but he was very very shy at first and needed a lot of encouraging. He was embarrassed that he wasn't saying things right and would often hide his head inside this little cave-like bowl I had for him. He would only chat if his head was inside the bowl and then he'd look out fast to see if I heard him or if I was watching. My mom and I totally encouraged him and excitedly repeated everything he said, which made him talk even more.

Now, I can't shut him up!

He's not one bit shy anymore and talks from morning until night.

Because he's so smart though, he gets bored easily and wants me to sit and teach him new words and phrases. He perches on my finger and presses his beak against my lips while I talk...totally captivated and mesmerized. He could sit for a half hour just listening to me and taking it all in. He's one quick learner and I've heard him say new words within 24 hours of learning them for the first time! He's an expert mimic and nothing stumps him.

: )

I am so impressed! My Grandmother used to have budgies, but they never spoke. She was told they had to have their tongues split before they would talk. She would never do that as it was cruel. I don't know if that was true or not, but that is what people believed in those days.

I am very tired tonight and my eyes are not staying open, so I guess I'd better get ready for bed while I am in this "mode". Maybe I can get a Loooong nights sleep tonight. So, I hate to cut our conversation off so early, but I think I am going to hit the hay! Good night all! ~J

Nope, I totally understand Janan...when you're tired, you're tired. Hope you sleep well and we'll chat again soon, no doubt!

Amazing what they thought in those days! Budgies become what the owner makes them become. You truly get out what you put in with them. Henry is spoiled and I pay him tons of attention. This is why he's such a chatter box.

Your grandmother's budgies were more than capable of speaking...but she didn't know it so she didn't teach them or encourage them, or else they would have.

It is true though that budgies that are kept singly as opposed to being kept with other birds, will be better talkers and will try to impress their human companion more with talk instead of chirping and bird sounds.

Very cool indeed.

G'night Janan.

If anyone else is around, feel free to say hi if you're bored...

I am worried about Howard..."Saltydad". I haven't seen him logged on in a long time. I sure hope things are ok...

Chat soon, gang. Guess I'll post for a bit...

Morning! (though it is nearly afternoon)

Went plant window shopping yesterday, may be why I was a pooped pup last night! I picked up some succulent leaves off the floor and brought them home and put them in some starting medium. (always ask first! They have always said yes to me - they are just going to sweep them up and throw them away, but they can't say you are stealing if you ask) We shall see how they do. A couple were pretty wrinkled up from drying out.

I really like that little skinny one. It looks like a teensy dragon fruit. I forgot the name - it was native to Rio I think. I'll write it down when I go back. There is a Jade and Kalanchoe and a couple of little oval leaves too.

Check out this cool optical illusion! Looks like the image is moving but it's not!

Cool Janan..nice shot!

Great that you were able to 'snag' a few cuttings that'll likely root easily for you. I've got a few myself using the same method.

Here's a shot I took today showing one of my 'sticks on fire' succulent cuttings rooting and you can see my blurred dragon fruit cutting in the front also taking off for me now...

Janan, if you're interested in the 'sticks on fire' succulent, here's a shot from the internet to show what it's like...

Bob sent me like 10 cuttings and they're all rooting for me now, so if you or Cam would like one, let me know...

Was gonna stop and look at cameras when I was out earlier but it was miserable out so I just came right home. Now I'm sipping on green tea...

Hi Sherry and Janan.

Nice cuttings. I need to take a picture of my Candelabra tree. Its huge. I just hate the needles on it, but its my most hardy plant. I took a cutting of it last year for my sister to have her own and its 2 feet tall now. I wanted to take a pic of the newest Thanksgiving cactus. I cant tell if its peach or yellow but it has pink mixed in it.
