Re: What did you plant today (other plants)?
this week, i did the following plant work in my yard:
Friday night: after the day's heat, trudged off to Home Depot for perlite, orchid, fast draining soil; prepared soil mix for and potted 2 ensetes and 1 kru bought from justin ducat's divorce plant sale. my first bananas! also picked up 2 large cannas from HD; both plants sat in the passenger's seat of my '96 Miata (top down, of course). Friday afternoon: removed stake from gold-colored bougainvillea and wired branches to new 4' X 8 fence trellis. Earlier in week (or late last week, can't remember which): picked up three 4' X 8' trellis from HP; attached trellises to fence panels, wired red bougainvillea to trellis close to back fence. also picked up two potted hybrid tea roses.

Re: What did you plant today (other plants)?
After hitting the nurseries for 1/2 or less price plants, planted a Blue Danube Stokesia, a Sliver Scrolls Heuchera, a Neon Rose Phlox, a Wood Spurge ( Euphorbia amygdaloides var. robbiae),, and a Yellow Moonbeam Coreopsis. All together got less than $30 in 3 qt containers.

Howard, congratulations! That wood spurge should like it in your location.

Re: What did you plant today (other plants)?
I played all weekend, last week. I went to Grand Junction, CO for a NAFEX (north american fruit explores) conference. It was a fun and I learned a lot.
I did some bud grafting, peach and apricot. Grafted some peaches with budwood from a very nice peach at my cousin's. Cultivar unknown. It was a volunteer peach tree with all the characteristics one might want in a peach. Also budded some Harrow Diamond peaches, and some Jerseycot apricots. aaron |

Re: What did you plant today (other plants)?
Richard, how long do you think you'll keep your avocado in a 25 gallon pot? I've got six of them in 15 gallon pots and don't think 2-3 of them will survive outdoors without protection, so I've been wondering about how long I should try keeping them in pots.

Re: What did you plant today (other plants)?
I'm hoping the roots are o.k. for 1 year. The weather here should not be a problem.

Re: What did you plant today (other plants)?
Planted, and set out, a large pot of Autumn Crocus (Saffron). This is my 3rd attempt and am hoping for better results this time. Will Definitely post pics once it gets some good growth.

Re: What did you plant today (other plants)?
Today I planted a dozen volunteer Gandules. I moved them from their "volunteer" positions to a better location. I also planted a Mango tree.

Re: What did you plant today (other plants)?
I planted a row (25) Fragaria "Mara Des Bois" that came from my front porch. They were in planter boxes growing and rooting and multiplying through the summer, but it's time to get them into the ground so they can start getting roots for spring's fruiting time.

Re: What did you plant today (other plants)?
Hey Richard,
I originally had 4 plants I bought from one of those specialty nurseries in Napa County when I was doing the wine tour in the fall of 2007. I've been growing and dividing them until I had 25 equal plants that I could put in a row I've made with red bricks on each side and been holding for them for about 6 months. They will surely multiply again, and this coming spring, and I'll be more than happy to send you out a couple.

Today I worked primarily on creating "mother plants" from some of my high-demand perennial herbs. I'll use these to propagate cuttings in the coming seasons. Included were mints, sages, basils, oreganos, parsleys ...
