Re: What did you plant today (other plants)?
My 30+ seeds of Barbados Pride planted 4 days ago have sprouted!! Soon the front boundary fence will be hidden behind them - mixed colours and seed collected from plants round about the area.

Re: What did you plant today (other plants)?
Helped my wife get her flower garden in. No fancy flowers, just old faithful favorites of hers.
6 dozen planted this evening. 5 dozen more go in tomorrow morning. It took all afternoon to build her raised flower bed, along the front porch. (everything is late this year, we just moved into this house 2 months ago.) aaron |

Re: What did you plant today (other plants)?
Just recieved (via mail) & potted a 3 foot 4 inch Drepanostachyum Khasianum bamboo ! Aka Khasia bamboo. Aka Blue Hawaiian bamboo. I know the colours are a fleeting phenomena but, hey, still Luv it, just the same !
Will add pics, later, once it's had time to adjust to our, now, 102 degree weather. |

Re: What did you plant today (other plants)?
I'm from the North Texas area and now living in So. California. This year I started okra from seed. We are in a drought and I am hoping it will be a good hot weather plant. I also very much enjoy the pods, fried, pickled and in gumbos.

Re: What did you plant today (other plants)?
ArtNut, it's a fabulous hot weather plant. We keep planting it here in Furnace Oklahoma & get beautiful, huge pods year after year - and very healthy plants.

Re: What did you plant today (other plants)?
I just planted cuttings of three varieties of pitaya, also known as dragon fruit (Hylocereus undatus): American Beauty, Purple Haze, Red & White. They're in 5 gallon pots for now and will later go into tubs made from splitting 50 gallon plastic barrels in half so that I can move them for frost/freeze protection in the winter.

Re: What did you plant today (other plants)?
Three peach stones from peaches purloined from a wild peach tree on a mountain overlook out on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We tried them and they turned out to be the best peaches ever. It's gonna be a while...

Re: What did you plant today (other plants)?
Two more Kona Sugarloaf pineapples. I've also made some cuttings of the wild black raspberry plants on the hill behind my house and am trying to root them so that we can have them in a more convenient spot next year.
I also kicked a toad out of one of my pineapples. He was burrowing in the pot. |

Re: What did you plant today (other plants)?
I didn't plant these per se. I haven't seen a donkey's tail in ages. Yesterday, in the most unexpected place (Walmart) I came across two well established plants nestled in a top shelf filled with various petunias. I am so pleased to have a chance to grow sedum morganianum again. Thick, overlapping leaves trail down to form a "donkey's tail". Beautiful--and fragile. I hung the containers underneath my Boston fern which hangs from a low overhanging branch of my neighbor's tree. I couldn't have wished for a more perfect place.
Here is how a mature plant looks. It must be the right time for me to get reacquainted with sedum morganianum. It's been many, many years since I've caught sight of one; lately since moving to Sacramento, I've been thinking, and hoping to find these; I found the image above less than a week ago, and late yesterday afternoon, I found my plants waiting for me at Walmarts. Quite serendipitous really since I was shopping for mandevilla and other flowering container plants.

Re: What did you plant today (other plants)?
I planted papaya, star gooseberry, horseradish last week. My young banana is endangered by some insects and worms, I am taking good care of it.

Re: What did you plant today (other plants)?
Hi guys! Well, actually, yesterday. Took cuttings from my white/lavender Hibiscus bush and, using rooting hormone & perlite, I planted them in a one gallon pot. Just hope it works cause it's the first time I've ever tried cuttings.
BTW, couldn't have tried without the great info I got from Fernie - Thanx again ! Last edited by Eric : 08-15-2009 at 07:34 AM. |
