Hiya Re: Succulents & Cacti...

Oh JaNan, you're just so nice.

You don't have to do that for me, but it's so sweet of you to think of me this way. I hope you know you will be rewarded well, and anything I have you are welcome to also. In Spring before I mail to you, we're going to go through everything so I can send you exactly what you'll love.

I think all your succulents are to die for and you've got one of, if not The best collections around! Those recent ones are stunning and I love the bright red colors. I bet they get more red in the sun and heat. Can't wait until they start taking off for you!

Thanks so much for sharing with me too. I am so excited about sending you some stuff next.

Sherry, I hope you know I am not in it to see what I can get out of it. I share because I love to do it! I don't know too many people that love their plants like you do and I enjoy your pictures and postings a lot.

Here are my Mother of Thousands buds getting closer to opening:

Thumbs up Re: Succulents & Cacti...

I totally know you just give because you want to and for no other reason. I'm the same way and very much enjoy giving things to other people...just because. That's why I like you because you're just a genuinely nice person...and non-snobbish too.

My mom always tells me that God loves a cheerful giver.

I'm just excited to share with you too, that's all...but not because I think you expect it, so no worries.

JaNan, that thing is stunning!!!!

Do I have that? You said it's mother of a thousand...is it the 'leopard spots'?! It flowers?! Omg that is so beautiful!

Tell me more, tell me more...

Thank you.

Yes, you have it. Yes, it is Mother of Thousands - Kalanchoe daigremontiana. The one that has the spotting on the stem of the bloom is "Leopard Spots" (I believe the 1st, 4th, and 5th picture).

The blooms are gorgeous and last for months. Butterflies and hummingbirds flock to them. They are elongated bell shaped blooms. I think I will have salmon, dark pink, and light pink blooms this year.

I think my red purple sport that I have been watching, is fairly cold hardy. Here is a picture of it today, you can see the one beside it has sriveled up in the cold, but it still looks good.

AND I have some babies coming up and I have ONE that is red!

I'm nearly speechless!

but not quite...

You mean mine will have gorgeous flowers like that too?! I already like that plant but now I love
it. It's in my best window and it gets loads of sun & bright light. I just can't wait to see those flowers!

JaNan, those shots are beautiful...love the red little cutie.

I think you sent me the purple one but it didn't make it...due to cold damage that wasn't apparent right away.

Your plants are so cheerful & colorful.

Nearly speechless! Yes, yours will have flowers too. It usually takes them two years to bloom, but with your magic green hands (more than green thumbs) - yours will probably be blooming by this time next year if not sooner, as fast as it is growing for you.

Those bloom stalks are about three to three and a half feet tall too Sherry! I had one in the house last year that was six feet tall with blooms on it. I had to stake it because it was so tall. I really love them. As soon as I show you the blossom pictures you will know why.

Yes, I did send you a purple one because I know you love purple. Sorry it didn't make it. The purple ones seem to be more cold sensitive. ~J

The thing is, it really looked great when it arrived and I noticed the gorgeous purple color right away, but the cold damage had yet to show itself.

I'm in complete shock about that mother of a thousand plant you sent me...3-5 feet flower
stalks?!!! I had no idea. How totally and utterly cool.

I already think it's beautiful now but can only imagine when the blooms open! Please be sure to show us.

Too funny about me having 'green hands'! LoL.

I sent you a purple bromeliad also. Did it make it? I don't think I ever heard you say. It was a small pup, so I'm sure it was tender. I think I wrote a list of everything I sent you, but I don't know where I put it.

Guess what I found today? This one is Bob's!

Oh he's gonna love that JaNan!

Apparently he had a Bue Tequila years ago and has wanted another one since. When I told him you sent me one, he just about dropped the phone!

So nice you're sharing something so special with him and I.

Nope, unfortunately the bromliad didn't make it. Sadly the ones that looked super cool all died on me...due to the jack-asses at the post office!

I did try though but I could tell over time that the cold had just damaged them a little too much to hope for any sort of recovery. Thanks for trying though.

Yep I did! Sorry! That's what happens when I am getting sleepy and posting to two threads at the same time!

One of the flowers has opened fully on the Mother of Thousands. It will last a long time and they will eventually all be open at the same time when the others catch up, but I wanted to show off the first one. You can see the one in the background is absolutely loaded with blossoms, but none have developed any color to the buds yet.

Is there anyway you can get a shot inside the bloom, so we can see the center? How absolutely gorgeous!

Do the blooms have a scent at all?

I believe Sherry's new succulent is Haworthia pumila. Take a Google glance and see.

Beautiful Sherry!

Yes, I will try to get a picture of the inside. I took some but they were blurry so I will try again tomorrow!

So it's a type of Aloe?! Very cool.

I really like the white spots and stripes. What a cool plant. We hardly ever get any good stuff so I was surprised to see it at all.

Looking forward to seeing more shots of those gorgeous blooms, JaNan.

It's awesome JaNan. Thanks so much. Actually I never had one of these but have just wanted one for years and never got around to getting one since you dont see many agave's in nurseries here.

JaNan,

If I'd been a little less sleepy last night when reading the Link I found about the "Hawthoria Pumia," I would have read that it was for sure NOT the "Aristata".

Thanks for covering my butt.

Anyway, I think it is the best looking Aloe I have ever seen for sure!

Sherry; no pictures of the show I was so dissapointed. Basically all plants were woody perrenials and bushes... I am the cactus, succulent, and giant tropical freak. (You know;all the stuff I am NOT suppose to grow in my area). Those will be coming up in the Charlotte Sring and Home Show on 3-2-11--- 3-6-11.

Everyone have a great week!
