"Blue Princess" female holly cutting that's over 6 months old now. It's got swollen leaf buds and it's rooted. Expecting it to start growing in Spring/Summer...

Sherry, How often are you getting new leaves on the Siam Ruby?

Thanks,

Hiya Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers

When it's bright & sunny I get a leaf every couple weeks, Drew. When it's dark and cloudy, the growth slows considerably.

I think it's going to go under my halide soon but not sure. It seems to be doing well where it is.

Sherry,

Will you take a picture of your M.H. light and post so I can check it out? I am currently using 2-120 watt flood type grow lights (as supplemental light of course) on my AeAe and get a leaf every 2weeks. Does it have a ballast or can you just plug it into the wall?

Thanks,
Drew

Hiya Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers

Sure thing Drew, here it is...

I use a 400 watt warm deluxe SunMaster bulb...

Here's the box...

It's a full spectrum bulb that supports gemination, vegetative growth, and blooming, all in one.

Thank you so much!

Do you leave it on 12/12 when you do use it?

How much do they run? How far away from the leaves?

If you think of any other answers to any other pertinent ?'s I might have please let me know.

Drew

Wink Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers

You're welcome!!!

At one point Drew, I had it on for 18 hours a day but 12/12 is great too.

I usually have the bulb 1-2 feet away from the plants, but this also depends on the particular plants under it. Some plants can take stronger light than others. You always know though because if the plants are too close, they get scald marks on the leaves.

Seedlings generally like to be a good 4 feet away from this kind of high intensity discharge bulb.

Some people like to bother with several different bulbs for several different stages of growth. In my opinion though, it's a big hassle and it's costly too, so I picked a terrific SunMaster bulb that supports all the stages of growth.

It's a complete full spectrum bulb that has a balanced rich blue content for healthy vegetative growth, but also 50% more orange-red light for maximum flowering. It also promotes accelerated linear growth and germination too! It has a higher PAR watts/lumen rating than most HID
sources.

For people wanting to choose and buy a grow light...

Buying a light system is very much a personal choice, so beware of people who try to tell you what to buy and who presume to know your needs. The best thing to do is to go to a few stores or call them and explain your needs...ask what they suggest or recommend. Educate yourself and you'll soon know exactly what you want and need.

Happy Growing!

I Know...it's just so vibrantly pink!

When I first saw it at the greenhouse, I had to have it. I also got another nice pink and green striped one awhile back too...

Thanks, Pen!

The succulent at the back of the pot is from "Tugo" in Turkey!

The one at the front is called "burrito" baby burro's tail.

Here's my 5 year old orchid today...

The blossoms seem a bit more freckled to me this time around...

I accidently cut off the first flower stalk but it sent up another! The wonders of orchid food.
