The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers
 Hey Banana Buddies: Here is my living room container garden...   Although this picture was taken 3 or 4 months ago, this is generally how my living room looks at all times of the year. This thread will be a place for me to continue to show shots of my indoor container plants, as they grow and bloom. I grow all throughout Winter too, so these peeks are just the beginning! Here are some more recent photos I just took this week, of some of my container plants. I grow mostly all of my plants from seed... My Musa Basjoo banana pup. My very first banana plant ever! Ohhhh, how proud I am of it!   My Nelumbo (Lotus) seed, germinating in a glass of water...  My 'Jerusalem Cherry' plant (Solanum pseudocapsicum). An incredible houseplant. Poisonous but gorgeous!  'Blackberry Lily' seedlings...  Seed grown 'Black Velvet Rose' geranium...  My 'String of Pearls' succulent plant...  'Tennessee Cheese' sweet pepper, & 'Purple Cayenne' hot pepper...  Non-edible ornamental peppers...  Burro's tail cuttings someone sent me in trade...  This shot was taken back in April/May, of my indoor 'Rose Pink' lilies...  It's amazing what you can grow inside!   |

i've done this before in winter time. It takes dedication to water and care for them. But hey, it doesn't look friendly outside. alex |

 I care for a window full of plants, all year round, and yes, it does take dedication and effort - TONS. I love it though, so it doesn't feel like work to me. Here's a few more peeks of some of my seed grown container plants. These are my Jalapeno peppers and my little bird 'Henry' in the background...  Who says you can't get a harvest of Jalapeno's indoors?!!!   African Daisy hybrid (Osteospernum) - now outdoors.   Jerusalem Cherry houseplant.   Sure hope you've enjoyed my pictures so far ~ but if you haven't, then...  LOL! |

  If you haven't already noticed that I have a serious pepper addiction, than you haven't really been paying attention!   Here is a picture of a mix of all my hot and sweet pepper varieties - some are now outdoors, but some still remain inside...  'Purple Cayenne'  'Trifetti Variegata' from a seed trade with someone in Portugal.  |

 Also, last Sunday, I harvested a batch of Lemon Balm (my favorite herb) from my indoor seed grown plant, and hung the bundles upside down to dry....  You know you've dried it properly, if the purple color on the undersides of the leaves begins to get richer and brighter. If the leaves turn black, they've not been dried properly and should be discarded. Looks like my leaves are drying just perfectly...  Mmmmmmmmm....that lemony smell!  |

Great stuff crazy lady! My house only looks like that in winter. Whatever you do don't plant the lemon balm outdoors unless you want it all over everwhere. Trust me at least on this one(yeah right!). It's kind of like horseradish or borage. You only plant it once and spend the rest of your life pulling it out, even though it's one of my favorites.

 No worries, Bob, I've been growing Lemon Balm for years, and know all about how it spreads. This is why I grow it in containers, and not in the ground, because Nettle is a known invasive spreader. Thank you - I'm So glad you guys liked my shots. More will be posted soon, I'm sure...  |

 Although this is not in my living room, it is just outside my living room window, to further show my addiction to peppers. This is a mixed container of ornamental and edible hot peppers. I grew all of them from seed, of course. They are beginning to show some color, and I thought I'd let you guys take a peek...  |

Here's a shot of the grumpy little fella that I took today. He's a parakeet, yes, but should be classified as a full-blown parrot because his vocabulary is astounding. He even counts to six!
Here he is, my spoiled little 3 year old budgie, Henry...   Also - love goofing around with the camera. Here's a shot of my kitchen window. Ornamental pepper and Jerusalem Cherry...  My very first 'Gypsy' sweet pepper fruit of the season...  My 'black velvet rose' geranium bloom, to show the seed pod in the flower. See it sticking out like a little needle? When the pod turns brown the seeds inside are ready to be collected.  My 2 year old Chrysanthemum that blooms every Spring, and Fall...   |

 Just thought I'd show these shots I took today also, because this is one of Henry's best friends... Here is my mom's little Holland Lop bunny rabbit, named 'Buttons'. Although it was tough to get some good shots of him while my mom tried to hold onto him - here he is, the spoiled little fella...  Further humiliating poses...  'Thank God that's over' says Buttons...  ...and a very jealous Henry, glaring down angrily from the top of a lamp shade, at the goings on below, of which he did not approve whatsoever, as you can see by this photo...   |

Nice pics HBL. You have proved that you can grow about anything indoors to those disbelievers. I have over 140 plants that I grow indoors in winter - including citrus. Most are outside now but I was too lazy to move the ones in my west facing bay window. I also built a sunroom addition just for them LOL.
What is that sweet pepper that looks like a jalapeno? I bought what said 'sweet bell pepper' & the peppers look like that - not bell! grrrr ..it's not at all hot. What do you do with your dried (or fresh) lemon balm?? I have some in the yard but I like lemon thyme better (oooh, the smell!) |

 Thank you, Patty!Here is exactly what I do with my fresh indoor, seed-grown, lemon balm... It begins with hanging fresh bundles of balm upside down to dry...  As the leaves begin to dry...  You can really see this gorgeous purple color on the undersides of them...  I stuff some freshly dried leaves into a tea ball...  Then I close it up tight with the balm leaves inside...  Then I pour some boiling water over top and steep for 5 minutes...  Here is the end result - a homemade cup of freshly steeped lemon balm tea! Mmmmmmmm.  :woohoonaner: |

Guess what Chong was so kind enough to send me seeds for?... ~ Winged bean ~ Musa Helen's hybrid ~ Musa Katali ~ Carissacarandas ~ Desmos Chinensis 'dwarf ylang ylang' (perfume tree) ~ 'Jack Frost' white cucumber ~ Musa Yunanensis I am so thrilled, and already have some of the Ylang Ylang seeds in soil! How exciting. What a nice guy. P.S. Had to show these Easter lilies that bloomed in my garden a couple days ago...  I know, I know - living room container plants - but they were so pretty I couldn't resist. |

Oh the sweet pepper that looks like a Jalapeno, Patty? It's called 'Gypsy'. It says the name above the picture, if it's the one you're referring to? The fruits turn red, and are so delicious.
Yes, peppers are so wonderful to grow, both indoors and out. I usually grow mine in south windows, but east works well too. They're just so darn pretty, and fun to look at - not to mention tasty. :goteam: |
