Janan...

Do you know how much that nursery was selling their shrubs for? I know one gardening friend in the US who says his nursery sells them for 60 bucks a shrub...and you need two!

I only paid 50-60 bucks for my pair, through mail-order, but interested to know how much they are selling for in other areas as well...

I hope you have success with your seeds, Janan. I bet you will. Good luck and let us know...

That's the funny thing - they didn't have any for sale, nor did they know where I could buy any. I guess whoever designed the landscaping for the place bought them when they were developing the site. Maybe I just didn't talk to the right person. I will ask again when I go back. I am usually there about once a week when I hit the sale tables! ~J

Really?! WoW!

Ask them if you can snip a couple cuttings because they root in a glass of water! The berries contain the seeds but cuttings will be great too if they'll let you take some...

Took this nighttime shot of my shrub just a few minutes ago. It's dropped all of it's leaves now.

It's not the clearest picture but I wanted to show how striking it can even be at night when headlights shine on it, pulling in the driveway...

Took these shots today, to show both my shrubs without their leaves. The berries will stay intact all winter long...

Oh yes, Howard...

That's the whole lure and why this shrub is so popular...because of the striking ornamental beauty it offers througout the winter months. When the snow hits, those berries will stand

out even more.

Thanks for noticing how lovely it is.

Here are a couple of the pictures I promised of the Amethyst Beautyberry in the landscaping "islands" in the Lowe's parking lot. There are 5 to 7 bushes planted in each of the islands and there are at least a dozen of these throughout the parking lot.

Thumbs up Re: "Amythest Beautyberry" shrub...

Beautiful too, Janan. I see they're losing leaves also. I can't wait to see my shrubs when snow falls. They'll be so pretty.

My bushes are the nicest they've been this year and it's thanks to all my steady and heavy fertilizing. I've never seen so many berries on them as this year. So pleased with them.

Thanks again Janan, for sharing.

I've been wondering the same thing Howard! Thanks for asking! I don't know why I haven't asked. They aren't edible for us right? Not that there would be much to eat, but there are a lot of them!

There's no chance these will have a backdrop of snow! HA! HA! ~J

By the way Howard...

When I send your cuttings again, I will be sure to wrap them well so they won't be affected by cold, plus I'll send them express post so they won't be spending much time outside anyway.

The truth is I only did it as an experiment...trying to root cuttings with berries on them. They are rooting though, just very slowly. Here yours are to day Howard, rooting with some African Daisy cuttings...

Thanks for your efforts, Sherry. I look forward to them. No rush, as I'm doing what you are probably doing, trying to find enough appropriate space, locations, pots, etc. for all my plants that are now inside, added to the regular indoor plants. Getting hard to walk in some rooms. I'll pull your toad lilies when you want them. you'll be getting the ones in the 1st picture, the purple spotted ones.

Howard, I'll take any toad lily you've got!

I must admit I have a thing for the raspberry colored ones, so if you've got those...I'll find a way to get them out of you too eventually!

I can hold off on sending the cuttings until closer to Spring if you'd prefer...they'll just be all that much more developed by then with many roots. One way or the other they're yours, so no
worries.

I know what you mean about it being hard to walk in some rooms...and I blame Bob 100% for it!

There is not much pulp on the very small fruit, but with enough, they do make a pretty and good tasting Jam.

I just did a google search and found out some amazing thing. They are edible, make a tasty jam as Caloosamusa mentioned, great for birds in the wintertime, can use the leaves as mosquito repellent, you can even make wine from the berries. This makes this plant even more desirable to me and it was high on my list thanks to Sherry's positive press as it is! Very cool! There are a couple of negative comments but WOW who knew!

Wow, that is just way too cool, Janan & Caloosamusa! I love it that they're edible and had no
idea!

I can't wait to taste one, now.

The thing is though...

I grow the shrub for the ornamental beauty of the berries and don't want to remove them.

I've got it...

Janan, you make the jam and ship some my way!!!

Sound like a plan?
