Sounds good, Zac...but just keep 'em showered from mites and their damage. You know how it is.
You are going to have some gorgeous beauties, no doubt. : ) |

Re: "Amythest Beautyberry" shrub...
Howard....
As I told you in pm, due to the fact that you have not received my box yet, Bob has offered to mail you a couple of the extras I sent for him within a couple weeks time. He's just waiting for them to get over their shock of the last trip first before he sends them out a 2nd time. In a little while too, I will be mailing you some of the cuttings with berries on them that I showed in the previous post. They are just slower rooting and I need more time. Next time they will be mailed express post so this never happens again. I cannot believe they still haven't delivered it to you! I've never had something not arrive at all. Why those thieving post office bastards!!! I'm angry and they better give you my box soon... Anyway Howard, no worries, you will still have what you need but it just pisses me off that they think they can just keep people's stuff! I really believed you'd get it by now. We'll see... Sorry, but I was just venting! : ) |

Re: "Amythest Beautyberry" shrub...
Sorry to hear that Howard still hasnt received the box.........that really sucks!!!
I sent a birthday box over the border to a friend of mine in Minnesota, and i mixed up the numbers on the zip code, and they sent it back to me, and the sad part is that it was in her town.....so why not deliver it to her Fingers crossed that it shows up for you, Howard |

Re: "Amythest Beautyberry" shrub...
I know Penny, it really makes me mad! Bob too, sent me two boxes on the same day, and one I received on Tuesday after the holiday Thanksgiving Monday, but the other one still hasn't arrived and he mailed it Priority Post!
More like Last Priority Post! It just leaves a bad taste in your mouth and I already dislike the post office as it is. Thanks for sharing your experience too, Pen. I just hope Howard's box turns up somewhere or those meddling shiesters are going to be hearing from me! : ) |

Re: "Amythest Beautyberry" shrub...
I wonder if it got caught up in Customs inspections? Otherwise the USPO has been very reliable in my experience with package deliveries.

Re: "Amythest Beautyberry" shrub...
SHERRY- GUESS WHAT ARRIVED IN TODAY'S POST!!!! A wonderful package adorned with many whimsical stickers. Seriously, there is no postmark, the stamps are hand canceled so I can't tell the mailing date, but it arrived! Now for the great part. Some of the contents are still alive! The kumquat is nice and green, and looks like you packed it yesterday. While most of the Polka Dot Plant is brown and dry, there is one green stem with 2 yellowing leaves that I think I can nurture to health. There are a few small green stems of ?succulents, so any idea on potting them? Unfortunately, the Callicarpa is toast,as is the Lycium barbarum. And what a wonderful selection of seeds, including lotus (do you know the color or name? I want to put one in the pond when it's grown!), Callicarpa, Sherry's beautiful Masquerade ornamental hot pepper, Blue Ensign dwarf morning glory, and the white marigold that she was praising. From the package I see why!
OK, now I can say it! "WOW, Sherry, you shouldn't have. I can't believe you sent me all this great stuff. As soon as I get a camera I'll post shots of all these wonderful plants. You're such a sweetheart, even if you wouldn't post a pic of your ying yang." :birthda ynana:

Re: "Amythest Beautyberry" shrub...
Oh my gawd, Howard....I cannot believe you got the box after all this time...but what's more astonishing is that there was even one thing living in it!
The Kumquat looks perfect!!! WOW!!! I am so glad you finally got it! The seeds will all be perfect for you too...just wait til you try those white marigolds! I'm told the Lotus will be pink! Wonder what the heck took it so long to get to ya. Don't worry about the Goji berry shrub....I'll send ya another in Spring. Are the Beautyberry roots toast too, Howard? If the roots still look like they're ok this is what matters, as they send up new shoots later. Let me know... I really am very relieved that you finally got it and was very upset about it. Glad it worked out and thanks so much for your post...although we could have done without that last shot showing a dead twig! Now no one will ever want anything from me again! Ok well that's very cool and kinda cheers me up so I hope you enjoy the seeds and plants. The succulent cutting will root in soil in a half sunny sill. Are they all ok? Just stick the ends into the soil. I even gave you that pink flowering one that Zac sent me! Thanks again, Howard. Enjoy! Ok, for clarification's sake.... I though I had a yin, and you had a yang?! If I had a yin yang....wouldn't that make me a... You post a shot of yours first Howard, and I'll post mine right after you're banned! : ) Last edited by The Hollyberry Lady : 10-18-2010 at 11:49 PM. Have fun growing the Kumquat and the Dwarf Polka Dot Plants, Howard.
It's great that you also got the white marigold seed packet. Make sure you don't let the deer eat those gorgeous flowers. Rae

Re: "Amythest Beautyberry" shrub...
Sherry, look what I found today! They are in the landscaping at the Lowe's I went to today. Lowe's does not sell it! HA! HA! Anyway, I had to take some shots for you. Are the brown berries the "ripe" ones? There were some that were already on the ground so I picked some up. They probably ripen here way sooner since it is so hot here, but I thought you would like to see some in Texas! I need to go back over this thread and see what I can do with the seeds and stuff! WooHoo!

Re: "Amythest Beautyberry" shrub...
Amazing shots, Janan. Thanks for posting!
WoW, so that's a nursery bush...how much were they selling them for? That one you're showing...was that in a container or in the ground? The berries are ripe and the seeds within are ready, when they turn bright purple as shown in your shots. Sow some seeds moist & fresh and dry some on a plate for a week and then sow some dry as well. I have a feeling both will germinate. Good for you that you found one and showed it to us, Janan. Thank you. It's a real beauty! : ) |

Re: "Amythest Beautyberry" shrub...
These are in the parking lot landscaping and they are in FULL Texas sun! They are all planted in the ground. This summer hasn't been as hot as it usually is here, but they look like this in October and surrounded by parking lot!!!!! I would say they are some tough plants. Sorry, I didn't get any of the whole bushes - I will try to get some the next time I go. There are probably 20 or so of them in this parking lot.
There is another taller shrub with red berries on it I will try to get some shots of that one for you too. It is not a Holly, it has a small leaf - it almost looks like a small tree. Anyway, I am glad you liked the shots. I took them just for you! ~J

Re: "Amythest Beautyberry" shrub...
I know Penny! I hope I can get it to grow for me. I have really good luck with seeds - getting them started, but I have a devil of a time keeping them alive after about a month or two. So keep your fingers crossed for me. I will follow Sherry's instructions right down to the letter so we will see. I am encouraged that it is such a tough plant. I think I might try and get a couple of cuttings off it and try that too. I was surprised too that the leaves are so large - that and the color contrast. It is a beautiful plant! ~J
