Spoke with the lady, and she believes it is an Iholena Lele since from here experience they are somewhat variable. Nice long conversation with her. She also knows the guy I got it from, and she also knows Gabe. Small world.

I guess this would be a red variant with skinny fruit.

(she said she had just spoken to someone from CA on this very same subject... I wonder who that could be? )

Got this awesome Goldfinger pup in the mail from Abnshrek today

I love it when the mailman plays Santa, especially when it gives me a good reason to take a break from painting the house!

Here it is freshly planted behind a Raja Puri on the left and a Double on the right:

Thanks Michael!

I envision him and a fellow rap partner up on stage performing under the name "2LiveKru," spittin' out lyrics while dressed like red banana plants

Hi Guys

First post here. Im from Australia, north qld in the tropics .

Planted a blue java today that my wife and I bought from the markets. We have a few other banana plants growing I believe they are lady fingers planted those a couple of months ago and growing really well.

The little one with bricks either side of it previously died so I mowed it over. Couple of weeks later a leaf sprang up.

I found some Musa Velutina at a local farmer's market for $8 each. It was the first time I've seen them available on Oahu.

Truly Tiny. Why is there so little information out there about this cultivar? The information I find seems inconsistent. Some sources say it fruits; others say no. Some say it is a tiny Cavendish; others say it is a tiny Brazilian. Some say the plant is a deeper green and darker stemmed than the similar-sized Little Prince cultivar; others say they are about the same. I love a mystery. I guess I will have 2-3 years of banana observations to find out the truth.

ok I had one one my porch for a few years mine produced a bloom in 2 1/2 years I kept it a few more years after that. I don't think a lot if fertilizer is needed for them. I found a few handfuls of compost monthly did best.. I'm South Florida so we have pretty good amounts of sunlight. Where I kept the plant it got only morning sun till about 11 AM then the roof kept it from seeing any direct sunlight. it was a nice medium green and I water every other day . but if it rained it got rain water. 2 inches of wood chips on top of poting soil 15 gallon container

My 3rd attempt at an Ele Ele. I'm pretty sure this one is a real one since it was dug up just for me from Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden where they have Ele Ele and other Hawaiian varieties. My 1st attempt was a TC from Aloha Tropicals--no idea what it really is. My 2nd turned out to be either a Hapai or Sucrier, bought at the Hawaii Breadfruit & Banana festival last Sept.

Planted a Lakatan last week. Helped remove the pup from a mat that was fruiting and could see the clearly rounded bud. I was not interested in getting the Lacatan, or cavendish type, so I wanted to make sure it was the Philippine kind. The little rocks around it are what my "soil" consists of. That and a few years of decayed free mulch.

Me too! Probably more like 2 years. That seems to be typical from pup planting to ripe fruit for me. Have gotten more like 18 months from some TCs. I think I've got maybe 20 varieties in the yard planted in the past year or so that I've never even tried. Next up is the Monkey Fingers that began flowering after 12 months. Next 2 years should mean lots of new fruit that I taste for the first time!

I still have no idea what most of the banana varieties you guys are talking about. I got myself a pup from my neighbor today, its a dwarf something. He recons its a dwarf cavendish of some sort but I recon its a dwarf ducass as they are on the allowed list for the region of australia I live in.

I put in about 8 plants today. Problem is I have no idea what they are b/c they were given to me. I'm hoping to get help identifying them. I do know that they are all edible types... so that's the main thing
