sorry mate. mine looked exactly like that and it died. put it up in free draining soil on a heat matt. if nothing grows cut back. maybe cut the dead off. or the rot spreads.

sad to see the thin plants with little to no corm some members pay for.
that plant had little to no chance to make it unless you take extreme measures to save it.

Don’t buy online overseas!!!!!!

where did you get yours may I ask?

Ima be brutally honest with you. But the likely hood of it surviving is small, aeaes Florida are fussy sons of *******. I say u have a 3/10 chance. I mean it’s possible but once aeaes are damaged plus the fact u don’t live in a tropical climate mean it’s gonna be hard and long. I’m just saying don’t get your hopes up as mine in the UK died abs it crushed me lol

I fully get it dude. I was the same mine deteriorated very wuicky. If you don’t see any news growth or any sign of life within 2 weeks it’s more than likely dead. It’s tough but it can still happen. So don’t give up but don’t get ur hope up also otherwise it’s more depressing

That’s the link to the photos^. That is the corm before I cleaned it up. Cleaned all that black off, so it is white now. Also removed rot.
Looking fine.....

What was your source for the plant??

You should share the name of your source....lots of forum members are trying to get some cool plants across the border.
Another great reliable source would be helpful.

If you could share the costs incurred would be great.

I can promise you it is most definitely possible to over water a banana!! Maybe more difficult in the middle of a good growing season for an in ground plant. However, in pots, especially in the more northerly cool season, absolutely not only possible but if not careful, easy!! I know, 'cause I've done it several times......oops!

There is most definitely at least one avid grower in your neck of the woods and there are at least a couple of reputable, I believe, sellers of plants other than basjoo in Canada...if you are interested let me know and I will forward the information. Good luck with your Ae Ae

I am guessing there are probably more but these are the two that I am familiar with. I ordered dwarf orinoco from TOC and received 2 very nice plants. Haven't ordered from Phoenix farms personally but a good friend who buys from them (not bananas) recommended them to me for other plants and I just happened to notice they also sell less common, for Canada, bananas. But you'll notice their nomenclature isn't exactly standard, so it might be worth a call to clarify if you do decide to order.

https://mailorder.phoenixperennials....h=musa&Submit=

We specialize in tropical, food bearing plants, that will grow and thrive in the Canadian environment.

Of course if you want a bigger order comprising a larger selection of varieties and are willing to pay a little extra for phytosanitary certificate and such, Larry at https://www.bananatreesforsale.com/ has an outstanding reputation for a quality product and excellent service. As I understand it though you need to order directly from him, can't order internationally through his website.

The bottom line for growing the AeAe successfully is -------------

For outdoors you have to live in South Florida or Hawaii.

Or you must have a heated green house!

maybe..... however I think if you can first let it get established, you can grow them outside farther north. I knew someone who had one fruit outside in the ground here in central Florida. It is possible.... just need to let it get established while it isn’t cold.... Once it is established, I think it could handle a little cold. Heh, if Cavendish can survive here, why can’t AeAe? Lol I failed twice here but that’s just because it was too cold when I was trying to root it.

I know this is going to sound crazy but one of my aeae mats planted outside right on the southeast corner of my greenhouse survived our insane winter here in Texas! It got down to 7f!! It had about 1’ of hay as protection. It is a very established mat! 4 pups are growing strong! I lost all every outside Florida mat. Also a lot of AA and AAA types.

Hey for anyone who wants an update, my Musa has grown a new root!!!!! (Pics are in the link above) About 4 days ago I decided to deadhead it and see what happens. I went to work for 5 hours and came back to a little growth above the cut, which I found surprising that this would happen in literally 5h. I then decided to start putting the bin outside in the sun all day long to replicate Florida temperatures as best as I could. The bin is approx 31°C in full sun all day and 24°C at night and 80% humidity always. The Musa gets full sun filtered through the clear bin. Anyways after a couple days of being in the warmer sunnier conditions, I took a look at the corm tonight and saw a new root growing!!!!!! The the pstem is green and healthy looking with no signs of sun damage and the small new pstem growth is a healthy green as well. Looks like all it needed was heat and a little bit of florida!

The next time I water it I might use some unsalted pasta water as I’ve read that’s a good way to give a fragile plant some nutrients without burning it with fertilizer. Thanks for all the support from everyone and this banana community!
That’s great news. Beware of rot. Your never off the hook when it comes to
Rot. Be careful good luck

Thats pretty amazing! My AEAE went in the ground mid april and was looking ROUGH with 60 night and 80 degree days. Now that its hot and humid it kicked out a pup and is taking off! I certainly underestimated their love for heat.. Glad to see you back on here Ty.. I cant imagine the damage you had to your plants after that storm. Best wishes to get back running!
