Another good spot for shore fishing is the bays. There are lots of Spotted Bay bass hiding in the eelgrass.I will catch Sandbass once in a while.Just keep your lure bumping the top of the grass and you'll hookup.I use the same tackle I would use in fresh water. If you really want to have some fun go ray fishing in the bay. There are some big ones in our bays.Chuck out a dead squid and hang on , the big ones are like freight trains. |

Having lived in Key West, fishing was a very time consuming task. We fished almost everyday that the weather was nice. Hope you guys enjoy. Good fishing.

Re: Surf Fishin and fish tale thread
With the knowledge that many fish tales are quite stretched, I would like to enter a tale of ours. I swear this is the truth, we left the dock at 8:30 AM and proceeded south. At 9:05 we had four hook ups. Mahi Mahi and plenty of them. As the fish were everywhere, we put up the rods and went to hand lines. At 9:45 I called for a break as I was the one taking the fish off the hook and rebaiting. Started again after several beers and we finally quit at about 11:00. No place to put more fish. Not kidding, everything was full of fish, I even empted the beer from the cooler and used it for the fish. On the way in, my friend from the Republic of Panama was sitting there and chopping of the heads of the fish, luckly for me I saw what he was doing and stopped him since the fish market won't take a fish withour the head. The bottom line is he took home about 100 pounds of fish, we took enough for about the same ampunt of fillets and the fish market gave me $245. Nice trip and I wanted to return but they were not interested. One we won't forget.

Re: Surf Fishin and fish tale thread
The first time I visited Fort Myers Beach I was in my 30's.I rented a bike with one of the baskets in the front.Went fishin and filled the whole basket. When I returned the bike to the rental place an elderly man dressed in nice slacks a dress shirt and wingtip shoes noticed all the fish. He asked where I caught all the fish and I told him where and that I caught them wading in the surf. The next day I rented the bike again and returned to the fishin spot. The first thing I saw, sitting in the sand, when I got there was a pair of socks and wingtip shoes.Out in the surf with his nice slacks rolled up to his knees was the elderly man surf fishing. Now I'm the elderly man and I want to go fishin.True story.

Long Beach On April 25, 2011 commercial California Halibut (Paralichthys californicus) fisherman Steve Campbell reported the following; At 6:30 PM I recorded air and water temperatures of 69 and 62 degrees Fahrenheit. It was near sunset under a clear sky with a West wind of 15 knots. I was about 50 feet from shore when I observed a White Shark, 6 7 feet in length, feeding on a California Halibut. I observed the shark for about 10 seconds before it was out of sight. This is my second observation this year of a small White Shark feeding on a California Halibut in Alimitos Bay, Long Beach. Please report any shark sighting, encounter, or attack to the Shark Research Committee. |
Re: Surf Fishin and fish tale thread
Not quite sure how to remove the hook should I catch one. Maybe some sort of long pole with a hook grabber on the end?

If that's the case I should use hooks that will rust and fall out in time. Is there such a beast?

Epic time on the beach this morning. Started at Malibu next to David Geffen's house but it was slow so we moved south to Will Rogers and it paid off!

These were actually caught in the surf along the ABC streets just north of the jetty, but it's still really gross there. Smelled like solvent today.

California Halibut
The recreational fishery for California halibut (Paralichthys californicus) remains open year round. The daily bag and possession limit is three fish north of Point Sur, Monterey County, and five fish south of Point Sur, Monterey County. The minimum size limit is 22 inches total length. |

As for the Halibuts I caught, they were not big enough to be legal. Big fines if you get caught taking fish home that are too small! And then there is that polluted water around the marina areas. Who knows what's in that water! |
Re: Surf Fishin and fish tale thread
Naah, here U can eat it direct from the Sea and there is almost no limits for surf fishing.

Re: Surf Fishin and fish tale thread
Ante, Most of the coast lines here have a large population and many like to fish. That's good until too many fish are taken and the species starts to decline. I can remember when it was no limit and I have taken many times a large amount. Try to keep your area clean and watch out for over fishing so you can enjoy for a long time. It may come to be that your area will have restrictions also. Have a very good day.
|
Re: Surf Fishin and fish tale thread
Yes, we will have same restrictions same day we enter European Union and according the news that will be July 2013, untill that you are all free to fish here:ha:
On the other side US household income are about 50 000$ and here I can get that to some 17 000-18 000$ and as U can see we have more or less same market prices as you. Its an Art of living here:ha: :nanadrink: |
