I had to change lures because they keep dive boming the topwater and I didn't want to have to unhook a seagull.

I had to unhook a pelican once. Casted a terror eyes out from the Ft Pierce jetty and it never hit the water. So I start reeling in and felt resistance. Looked up and a big fat pelican had tried to snatch it while airborn. He was hooked and landed back in the water so I had to walk 100 ft back to the beach. Slowly reeled him in to the surf. Took 20 mins. Got another guy to grab his wings and beak while I got the hook out of his belly. He was lucky - hook was only skin deep. Released him to get in trouble with someone elses lure.

Those short fins are out there somewhere!

Maybe some surf fishing is in your future. FYI, I think your halibut spot at Scripps is closed now.

You'll get em soon enough.

Without fish in it may as well be a swimming pool as far as I'm concerned.

Looking at the map doesn't help I guess I'll need GPS to go fishing.

Edit: this mobile link is what I was thinking about.

In addition, a mobile phone-friendly MPA website can be viewed on any smart phone at California Marine Protected Areas.

Just to be clear it's not an app, just a mobile friendly version of the site with an interactive map.

Have you tried it yet Tony?

Not a fan of the Bing map. F'ing thing won't slide properly. Edit: it doesn't slide, you have to enable the pan buttons.

The rules vary by area, not type. On the DFG site it doesn't even say anything about Scripps.

Under that column it says nothing. Does this mean there are no prohibited species?

The boundary was about 200yards south of the pier . I'm not sure if it was moved or not. Both areas were already reserves put they may have moved the red zone north 200yards. The halibut hole is in the blue but the bsp and corvina areas are in the red.I think surfers had something to do with this sh$$

Very fine thread should do the trick. Actually I think they only allow dip netting. It's very confusing.

As you see the lines are not clear, there is no app that beeps to tell you when you've crossed a line, and some areas are different than others making it tough for fishermen and the watchers.

I don't have any issue with them doing what they feel is right, but they better be careful! I've read some posts that are very inflammatory and even threatening. :lurk:

When I was in Florida a Heron would follow me when I went fishing. He would stand about 6' behind me and when I pulled a fish up on the dock he speared it and flew off. Ever time I went fishing there he was behind me waiting to steal a fish.
