What is it ? A map of some ocean??? :ha:
Central Europe people have all of my admiration for being able to live in such conditions.

Anyway , let's get ready for the next two days.... they will be as tough for us as for our nanas.....

Re: Weather forecast

We had -13,5C last night, the lowest temperature so far was -17,3C.
I have two thermometers with memory located in 2 different places in the garden to get quiet reliable results of measurement.
These temperatures are for my home town Józefów where I have a garden but I work and live also in Zamość (40km North) where is usually a little bit colder.
Although this is one of the coldest regions in Poland (winter) we have very hot summers.

Dalmatiansoap 12-15-2010 07:17 AM

Re: Weather forecast

Thats nothing for Poland! Even here we had -18C in Otočac last night. U can do much better Sew!

Seweryn 12-15-2010 07:43 AM

Re: Weather forecast

Some parts of the country had more (or less) than -20C, I don't know why the biggest frosts omit me so far.
Forecast for today night brrrrrrr (but still relatively warm here)

Re: Weather forecast

We had - 0.8° C last night here, but we can do better.
The record low for Greece was - 15.2 ° C. Well, it was at an altitude of 2090 m (6860 ft) at a ski resort, but we can compete with you guys!!! :ha:

I've been at the ski resort Kaimaktsalan and if you got bored from greek beaches, try a glass of ouzo in the snow!:bananas_b

Homepage of the ski resort (only in greek): Kaimaktsalan Ski Resort. By the way: Kaimaktsalan is a turkish word and is used today - even the Greeks and Turks are still not "best friends". The meaning (litterally translated): "thief of the cream topping". You can steal personally from tomorrow on, because the season will start.

Re: Weather forecast

Wow, I didn't know there are places for skiing in Greece... but I think I would definitely chose beach.
I know Greek only from physical and mathematical formulas from school... :ha:

Some curiosity:
Max and min. temperatures in Poland:
-41°C in Siedlce 11th January 1940
+40,2°C in Pruszków 29th July 1921

Yeah, it's not very known that there are ski resorts here and they're very small - compared to the ones in the alps, but at least one could go skiing here and it's not very expensive.
It's a bit strange if you know greek beach bars/tavernas, because it's the same thing here in the mountains at the resorts. The only difference is that fresh fish is not that reguarly offered there and the spirits sold are also the local homemade types, but they do taste good and warm up you're body on a cold day :bananas_b

Looking out the window this morning I found this:

- 2° C / 28 ° F and this is still Greece (!) on that pic! I'm just 87 m / 285 ft above sea leavel. (My daughter is completly excited. I have seen enough snow myself, as I grew up in Central Europe :-)

I just wanted to point out, that we have the more beautiful side of the Tatra. ;)

It's nice, sunny and cold today. Time to check on the Makarska palms and what -10 several times in the previous weeks did to them. :08:

Re: Weather forecast

Ok guys , things got officially ridiculous !

-4° in Rome ? In December ? It must be a joke..... I do not remember such an occurance....
Today I woke up to find that my hot water's pipe was frozen because it ran on the roof to join the thermic solar device.

For a moment I thought I was in Alpes in a place like San Candido or Bad Gastain....

My basjoo that was unprotected got a big toast... the Orinoco hold a little better but effects could be seen in a near future..... I didn't have the courage to look after D.C. and Thousand fingers inside their nursery...

The last few days were the worst weather I remember since I was I child.... Last year in February we had snow, it's true... but temps were somewhat above zero.... not -4°

Yup, that's ridiculous alright. But more ridiculous is that it was 4°C in Genoa this morning, while it was -3°C in Rome. At least that's what my stickers said it was.

Pretty switched, right? :ha:

Hold in there pal. And while you are at it and can't remember that it was this cold, look up the year 1985. ;)
It was so cold then, that vast majority of citron trees in the south actually froze, while the north was scorched by blizzards and cold never seen before.

Quote from Wikipedia for Firenze (Florence):
Quote:

−23.2 °C (−9.8 °F) on 12 January 1985

Was that actual -4 or just on sticker? My sticker was also at -4 this morning, showing Split airport temp., some 80 km North from me but we were arround ZERO :( at that time. Its even now on 3C and actual temp is above 6C

Cut off the damaged tissue, or you will be risking rot with those temps.

OK, they survived several lows of -14°C, lots of snow, frost and water, when it all started melting and now the same again. And most of them live. Damaged, but live. I didn't get deep enough to find those in the ground, but I guess the situation is the same. More to that. All those palms outside were in pots, so that's another advantage. Yeah, Ante, they are veeery strong. I must admit that. Those, that survive, will be planted in the ground next spring. Pics tomorrow, when the snow melts down. ;)

Those are wreaths that people have left on their loved one's graves...I was in a cemetery.

Today, it snowing hard again. Here's a shot I took from my window...you can see an icicle hanging down in the picture from the roof...

At -5°C...22°F, it's going to snow the rest of the day.

Hope everyone's having a great Sunday. ;)

Oh, I thought about it but I didn't see any gravestone.

The Hollyberry Lady 12-19-2010 04:35 PM

Re: Weather forecast

That's because I was in an area of the cemetery where the stones are flat groundmarkers...not upright tombstones. That's why you don't see them because they are beneath the snow.

No, blue means cold, red means warm. White means borderline cold/warm. And yes, it is taken as a comparison to statistical cold temps. :08:
