Here in Rome we are waiting for some refreshment.... Last week was 32-36 with hydration; From today a cooler wind should be blowing dropping our temperaures to 30ies and dry a little the air.
We are expecting the first drop of rain in 3 weeks next friday....

Long lasting summer here in Central Italy......

Well, rain skipped us again and wind has changed direction too so there is no much damadge, few stripped leaves, few pots rolling over yard, so fare so good. Its time for first Winter preparation repotting!

We had a high of 38 °C/100 F today, but also cooler weather is expected (below 30° C during the day). Humidity low was 24 % today, but now wind has started to blow a bit.
My nanners suffer a little during day and fold up the leafs, but get relief at night. Still very fast growth! My AeAe e.g. is pushing, better rushing out a new leaf and I meassured yesterday at 09.30 p.m. and just half an hour ago and the leaf grew by 10 cm in 19 hours!

No rain, but slightly "chilly" with 30°C as a high today... Yesterday it was 38° C.
Summer is over, autumn has just begun...

Hey guys, is it normal in your areas for there to be such an early cooling? I'm hoping that while temps here will eventually average out in the 60's F in September, 'true' autumn weather won't hit until October. Global climate changes, or is this the norm?

Yesterday's high 100 F, today only 85 F!

It's been the worst freaking year I remember. Terrible winter, even worse spring, late and very short summer and now what... autumn in August? Now that's a lil bit too much for me. As I've said. My emmigration mood is back again. :ha:

Well, Ante should be warmer, even only a bit cooler than Greece, depending on his altitude and distance to the coast. I think he get's more rain up in Croatia, but according to the USDA Zone Maps for Europe he should be zone 9? (Correct me, Ante, if I'm wrong). He's only less than 400 miles (600 km) North East of Thessaloniki.
More up north and inland towards Central Europe it can go down that fast.
I was living in Munich, Germany before and I remember sharp temperature drops at the end of August and summer was gone in just half an hour with the first serious cold front coming down from the North...
I think Jack, your climate should be very similar to Munich, excecpt with less (annual) rain, because it's a more continental climate, which also can have some heat waves in summer...

But some years you can be lucky untill start of September with nice and pleasent temps in Central Europe.
But also in Greece, it can be strange: Last year the first two weeks of September were unusually cold and wet. We had friends here for holidays... Well, they were disappointed! This year it's the opposite. Temps now up to 85F/30C in the day and no significant rain in sight if you can believe the long range forecast for the next two weeks.

It's difficult to apply the climate like this. Ante is a USDA zone 9b/10a with hot summers and rainy, wet winters (Koppen climate Csa).
Typical weather data for Split (north of Ante) are here... recorded over a long period of time. Add 1/2C to get Ante's temps... LINK

That's however not my parf of the Europe. Germany is influenced by the sea and partly by scandinavian cold air. We, on the other hand, are influenced by Russian cold front from the Sibir and southern winds from the Balkans. Typical summer end here mid-September and the transition, although fast, may not be permanent and certainly not this rapid. :(

Well, that's true for most of Germany, but the south east is more continental than you might think!

Still, it is influenced by the sea. ;) You can see that not in the summer, but in the winter. Whatever happens in northern France, UK or BENELUX, happens in vast majority of Germany as well. If it weren't for Germany's high latitude, it might even have oceanic climate. But with temps falling so much below zero they had to be classified as partly strong continental climate. Also, there are mountanious ranges dividing the Czech republic and Germany, south of the Germany... and that's the reason for cold air accumulation, not necessarily the true Central European and Balkan continental cold factor - Russian plains.

Yes, it is unusual cold spell here for this time of the year and I hope everything is going to be back to usual pretty soon. Normal temp. now will be about 25-27C for the first weeks in September and 20C in October.

Jack is right about my weather sticker, its for Split, region capital, 60 km NW from me and its allways a bit colder. Even now we have windy weather with 25C and Split is 22C.

Since last Friday the weather has bokendawn, 30 C (86F) turned into 11C, (42F). It is rainy, cold and windy like in November, brrrrrrr :coldbanana: but from the other side situation like this is typical for the end of August recently.

I wanted to say that weather like this is nothing unusual in August, but it should finish soon and 'Golden Polish Autumn' will come (I hope)
Even yesterday was couple nice moments which I used for small walk around the neighbourhood.




I found some wild apples but were very sour ;)

also starting to blow down here in Northern Greece.

We had a little rain (!) this evening and then it started to blow. Gusts up to 37 km/h (or 5 Beaufort). May be more in open places...
And it cooled down to just 22°C now at 10:30 p.m (which is cold for this time of day)

26-28° here with low hydration .... moderate winds from NW but no cloud or rain, so for the moment I can't complain.... the low temperatures are 15-16°.

Same here in Greece, but wind's quite strong. This morning, the newest leaf of my AeAe looked good, but by noon it turned awful. But I think it'll be okay.
The other naners are okay. The big Rajapuri's leaves looks like christmas decoration with all the cut leaves, but it's fine with no other damage.

The wind should be gone by tonight...

I had a dream last night that I was watching the weather forecast and they said it was going to get down to -6.5C tonight. It was a nightmare!! I was like how, since yesterday was 37.5C. Glad I woke up and it is nice and warm!

Anyway, wishing a warm Autumn in Europe! :)

F***ing cold here in Greece today. Summer has really ended. Today it was raining and stayed below 20° C! Well, just 6 days ago it was 38° C.
Tomorrow, hopefully the nightmare will take a break!

I literally hate it here right now climate-wise... but there was a Croatian festival here today and will be another feast (hody) tomorrow. So at least some fun is present in the cold air. I'm having a running nose though... still. :0517:


Btw, Soapy, all these ads on the site tell me to go to Croatia for exlusive prices, offer me flying tickets to Croatia, Split and Zagreb and claim that they know the best place to work in Croatia. Also, some seed and plant supplier from Croatia and Croatian citrus seller. Interesting. As if there was nothing else on this planet, but Croatia. :)

Stabile here too, well, for now it is and according to forecast will stay so for two more weeks. I dont mind if it even cool down a bit more just if it doesnt blowes. Ice cream is unrolling biggest, HUUUUGE leaf ever, and if it just menage to harden a bit before the winds.
BTW I started to build a kind of shalter for few plants that will stay inground.

After two nice days, penetrating coldness and wet weather came back /we had to turn C. H. on/. My banans stoped to grow and the wind made some damages on their leavs.

No, it's a fictional character created by Coca Cola as a marketed brand being used by older generation and superbig companies to dumb the younger generation by telling them, that some fatso with flying deers and carriage or whatever it is actually bothers reading billions of letters each year in order to set up the factory plan for his elves or whatever magical beings he employs without any form of employee protection, money or employee benefits, just for joy of working and who can't even realize that most of the warmest gifts are actually not matter based, but are emotions, wishes, hopes, love and compassion.

Hi from sunny (and hot) Red Sea. From what I see on rome's forecast, tomorrow is expected heavy rain with ice balls (I don't rememeber the correct word for it) and 25Knt of wind...: ARGH!!! And I'm far away from my little 'nanas unable to protect them against the storm.....
Murphy's rules strikes again.... the only day of bad weather from the last 4 month will come the only week I've left for vacation.

OK I'm going to get some nitrogen intoxication so I'll not think about it.... see you later.
