FHIA-03 Sweetheart. This bud is huge, but it doesn't really come across in the picture.

Another flower coming out on the trusty old Brazilian type... It's been a very dry winter here, and even with the watering everybody's bananas look like crap this spring. Maybe that is why this one surprised me by flowering at only 9 feet when the last 3 were at 10, 10'6 and a little over 11', respectively. Ps is kinda thin as well. I must admit the mat needs some thinning too... But, in any event, here it is:

I am looking forward to having some other varieties to call my trusty old mat...

Varieties I supposedly bought: Manzano, Cavendish, Blue Java, Sweetheart, and Gros Michel.
What it seems I actually have: Brazilian, Cavendish, Namwah, Dwarf Red, Gros Michel, Pisang Ceylon, Veinte Cohol and SH 3640, and American Goldfinger. FHIA 1, Paggi and FHIA 17... Always room for one more.

yes way to dry. digging in the ground here is like digging in talcum powder. even with the irrigation system. bananas are growing slow.

African Rhino Horn. Looks like 20 fingers, vs. 14 on the same mat last year.

I thought they were the best I've had, though I've never compared them to others at the same time.

Those green bracts on Huti are just such a trip compared to what you see on all the varieties I grow.

Maybe 10-12', though everything I grow is shorter than places that actually have soil, including down the road where the ground is 300+ years old instead of 62.

With the coloration of the bracts and the wide open petiole canal with wide wings, the first unknown sure seems to be some Cavendish type.

It not only flowered 2 feet shorter than the last 2 stalks but it only made half a bunch.
On the bright side, it looks like I will have a Namwah flower to post soon as the last leaf was 2 feet shorter than the rest.

I purchased a Gran Nain and Williams at the same time, so it could be either plant. Dwarf Cavendish could be another choice. Are Williams and Dwarf Cavendish the same plant?

Susan
Those are all different Cavendish cultivars and very similar in appearance. On average, DC would fruit at the shortest heights (typically 6-7', from what I've seen) and the other two would be a little taller and similar in height to each other, probably more in the 7-9' range. But growing conditions affect fruiting height so much that height isn't a completely reliable way of telling cultivars apart. If I recall correctly, DC and Grand Naine both have messy rachis, whereas Williams is mostly clean. I'd check that with Gabe.

After all this time and work I finally have something flowering that is NOT my Brazilian... It's my Namwah. I don't really care for that kind, but my wife liked them and they are a nice big plant, too so I kept it. Right now it's just a flag leaf, but I will post again later after it's done flowering. It was a little over a year old and is only about 8 foot, but it's a TC... Not a dwarf, either, so far as I know.
