What is the difference? What are your sources? I have noticed that TARS has had to classify a bunch of their accessions as unknown. The trade here is pretty much supplied completely by Agristarts, so it is likely some mutation during the tissue culture process. I know they have some variants in Australia.

Yahoo - this is the first time in all my years (almost 10) that I have bananas started this early. I'm in NE Florida, is this the right time? Last year I had one start in August and it shriveled and fell off. Last fall I fed them, they got beat up pretty good this winter with the cold and I had to cut them all back.

Anyway, pretty exciting to me.

It is more likely the original donor supplied an incorrect plant.

This guide is much easier to use when you have the correct plants.

That's been going on for years and you probably also noticed that many are not really unknown but were just removed for being incorrect, e.g., a donor supplies multiple plants, the GM gets listed as the Cav, the Cav gets listed as the GM, and then they're both removed for being incorrect.

Brian, I don't know. Haven't had anyone be able to id them for me. I will get another picture tomorrow or Tuesday, maybe get some help with the type.

Thanks for the photos. Yes I thought it was everything but a Goldfinger. The plant does have a hairy peduncle. I also found an older photo that shows the bunch position in relation to Pseudostem and the revolute bracts.

The male bud shape on my Goldfinger plant looks so different from the FHIA-01 in the Identification Guide. Thanks again for the photos its nice to view all the different Goldfinger flowers. Have you tried the fruit from the different Goldfinger plants? If you have is the flavor the same from each plant?

The plant is green to light green with abundant dark brown blotches.

Here is the picture I took yesterday, seems like they are growing quickly. If anyone has any input on the ants, I'd appreciate it. Not sure if pesticide is the way to go or not. Also if I should be doing anything to feed etc.

I'm such a newbie...

That is how my "Misi Luki Namwahs" look. If the fruit look and taste like Namwah, then I'd say that's what you have. Very much a bulletproof plant in my climate.

Given your location and the appearance of the plant, it is probably Orinoco.

I wouldn't worry about the ants. It does't need anything special. Just keep it watered and give it a regular fertilizer, like you would normally.

Dwarf Gros Michel (no idea what specific kind or if it is even a true GM). Came back from 2 weeks in Ecuador to find it has bloomed after a year in the ground.

No, it was just a way of saying every banana shouldn't be called a Goldfinger.
