Mike, believe it or not I do thin out the pups in the mat. But I don't to the extent of only two pups per mother plant. I feed these things constantly so I don't think that the fruit production suffers having more pups. Case in point, the original D. Namwah I planted produced 11 hands. I allowed two pups the same height to grow and each bunch has produced 16 hands of fruit, flowering at the same time (1 wk. apart). Sometimes I just get lazy and don't trim them for a while, but eventually they get taken care of. I added a lot of organic material to the soil prior to planting, and continue to add organics, and supplement with chem. ferts. If the planting beds weren't as fertile, I'm sure fruit production would suffer. Thanks for the kind words!

I have had good success(100%) by using bungee cords to hold p-stems with heavy bunches upright. Just connect 2-3 cords from around the loaded p-stem around some other big plants in the matt. They all even seem to stand up a little more strait. Caution--bungees can break uinder too much stress when connecting them.

The first fruits of the season started to ripen today. Manzano, one of my personal favorites, is turning yellow. The only problem is, I'm not home to see, taste, or take any pictures of it! Hopefully,I'll get there before they're gone. The SH3640 should be next in line, maybe I'll be there for them! I know it may sound weird but, it kind of feels like I missed my daughters first school play, ball game, etc... I hope to post some pictures soon.

Bananas Brindando Re: Fruit...and more fruit!

Your plants are great! Gratulation!
Especially the dwarf Ladyfinger (Loggee) would be interesting for us here in Germany, because of such an enormous bunch in a container.

Do you know, whether its need for warmth is similar to a Dwarf Cavendish or a Musa Rajapuri. Or does it prefer warmer climates??

Would be glad to get information about this outstanding plant.

I can't give you any info about cold hardiness, I'm in zone 10 . Maybe someone else has some experience with colder climates?
