Smile hello everyone,

Iam very new to growing tropical plants in my garden. I've just started this season with an adopted musa basjoo which has 4 or 5 pups and has grown around 6 feet. I live in North west NJ and lost my chance to take it to the greenhouse... Can u please advise me on keeping it dormant for the winter? I have a basement and a garage.... which is the better place to store? I also read another thread which spoke abt removing leaves, digging the corm out and keeping them in a crawl space... Will the same procedure work for my musa basjoo and will my basement /garage work instead of a crawl space???
Iam going on a long vacation and so leaving it outside and mulching before the first frost is out of question. HELLLLLP!!!!!!!
I just bought two PJM rhododendron plants which were on sale at walmart and I still have them inside my house... I was wondering if its too late to plant them outside..
Any advice is appreciated
Thanks
BTW, my username vaazhai actually means banana in TAMIL- a south indian language

Hello and welcome vaazhai

Basement or garage, I don't think it makes any difference as long it is cool
and frostfree. If you mulch it and leave it in the ground you loose the stem
but it will regrow next year and it will not die and you can seperate the pups
next spring when you have more time.
