Re: Hello

Sounds like you are doing something right having those still around after all those years. Overwatering can be a problem with root rot. I would try putting some compost on the top and then mulch to...

Re: Is it okay to have 2 pseudo stems in 1 pot?

Re: Does pot size make a difference in height of plant?

One trick I use is to lift up the pot to see if the roots are coming out of the bottom . This gives me a clue to move to a bigger pot. As Smeash is saying too big a pot can lead to problems with wet...

Re: Brown leaves reasons? Zone 11a (Malta, EU)

Touch the surface area with your hand in the place that your pot is during the hottest part of the day if it is too hot for your hand or barefoot it is transferring that heat to the roots and maybe...

Re: Is my Coconut Palm tree okay or dead?

It looks alive to me . Green at the crown and white on the roots. I would use coarse sand mixed with the peat moss in the future. I’m no expert .

Re: When is the best time to water plants?

Frequency of watering really depends on the type of soil
Or planting media. Like everyone says in this group bananas do not like wet feet.

Re: Help! I can’t dig in my yard...ground too hard!

Read this in Mother Earth magazine many years ago. Poke some holes in the ground and put some seed corn in each of the holes . Let a couple of hogs loose in the area and they will root up and till it...

Re: What did you pot today (Bananas)

Re: Mice eating harvest!

If the pseudostem can be isolated from other access points you can place a metal band around it . The idea is to keep them from climbing . The metal
will deter their claws from climbing up. Of course...

Re: Can I use wood ash in soil?

I would not use wood ash unless it was from unpainted and untreated lumber. Some wood was painted with lead paint and some lumber has been chemically treated. Not all charcoal is the same as well.

Re: Containers and fruit

I have had White Iholena and Raja Puri fruit in 45 gallon pots . I used potting soil mixed with perlite. I would advise staking any fruiting pseudostems . Given our California Santa Ana winds.

Re: Chronic problems with Sunburn and Rot

Talked with a guy from Pakistan. He suggested planting corn around plants to shade them from the sun. I haven’t done it but it sounds interesting.

Re: How Well do Banana Plants Grow in California without Care?

Depends on the specific location. Near the coast in Southern California would be the best possible scenario in my opinion.
